Top 5 Gluten-Free Delivery Spots to Enjoy in Riverdale Park

Oh my dear beloved Burtons, This is our go-to restaurant as a Celiac family. Any event, celebration, etc, we are at Burtons. Unfortunately, the Riverdale location is going off of our list and will be returning to the Alexandria location. When I say we go for all the celebrations, I'm not joking. Yesterday was the worst experience we have ever had at any restaurant and it was brunch on Father's Day. Mother's Day was fine. We were there. No issues. But, Father's Day was a diabolical disaster. If this was our first experience, which I fear it was some people's first time, I would never come back. Let me start by saying, the serving staff was amazing. You could tell the kitchen was falling apart but they were trying their best to hold the front of house together. I am going to repeat that we were there for brunch so when I say there were no water pitchers or food was unavailable, you know it got worse throughout the day into dinner service. Why advertise specials that you don't have? My husband and I both ordered off the specials menu. Appetizer sold out (at brunch.. yikes), main course was unrecognizable. They didn't have mashed potatoes, which were part of the dish. The sauce was missing from the chicken, and the chicken was more like Jerky. Needless to say, I took my meal home and didn't eat it. I was offered french fries at the end of my meal when I was informed there were in fact no mashed potatoes cooked. I took those home too. My daughter also ordered chicken that she didn't eat because hers was also a dried out jerky form. I will say, the waitress did comp a piece of chocolate cake, but after spending $150 on meals that 3/4 of us didn't eat, I decided you need to do better. In this economy, $150 for a family of 4 to have brunch comes with a certain expectation and you failed. Like I said, our family adores Burtons and we know what this restaurant is capable of and a busy brunch isn't an excuse to lose customers. I can only imagine what a mess dinner service was when you were running out of food by lunch time. Poor management destroys business. Do better. You have a strong reputation to uphold in the allergy and celiac community.

I love mod pizza! They have the best gluten/dairy free pizza hands down. I can't eat either, and I can usually only find one or the other, so mod is a gem. I wish they would either open a spot in DC or go back to delivering to DC. It's a bit of a hike to get there, but worth it imo. I ordered ahead and I think it came out at exactly the time it said on the order screen. My pizza was exactly how I ordered it! Didn't have much interaction with the staff as I just grabbed it, got a napkin and went outside, but they seemed attentive and greeted me when I came in. Restaurant looked clean and inviting, nothing to report there. Everything I needed was stocked. Did not use the restroom on this trip. I took off one star on atmosphere because they had music playing outside when there's other music playing outside from the restaurant across the street which I find super annoying. Please consider turning off the music outside in those cases! 🙏 Major pet peeve for me, and I think others would appreciate it as well.

Great hip Viet restaurant in charming Riverdale Park town square. It’s hard to find good Viet food in the area without driving to Eden center in VA. Banh mi (baguette) sandwich with grilled meat is delicious. They make awesome summer vermicelli (bun cha). It’s not as good as Eden center for pho, but since they are a Riverdale Park local joint with such awesome customer service and really hip decor, I gotta vouch for them. They also provide meals to hospital staff and first responders during COVID-19 spikes. It’s a good place to take your date, or your kids, or your mom who is visiting town from the Midwest who never have Pho to try something new. Bc the owner’s kid have dietary restrictions, she is very attuned to making sure items on the menu are marked as gluten free, have peanuts, vegetarian, vegan, etc. My only gripe is the fish sauce is a bit tangy and not sweet enough. We Viet are sensitive about our fish sauce bc it’s in 99% of our dishes. Overall, excellent place and I hope they continue to open post-Covid.

Jeano was very accommodating and was very well trained for gluten allergy. Overall the staff is extremely friendly and this is the best restaurant I’ve been to in years.
