Ananda Tree House

It’s so hard to find gluten free options in this city! I am so happy I found Ananda Tree House. They had so many gluten free options, including GF Buckwheat Pancakes that were so yummy!

My review would be 5 stars if not for a situation which exists nearly every morning at Ananda. There is an older Tibetan man who believes that Ananda is his personal office, and throughout his breakfast, he makes numerous deafening video calls, with no regard for the otherwise peaceful atmosphere. He refuses to use ear buds, or turn down the volume of himself or his calls, and staff refuses to politely ask him to perhaps do his shouting video calls at home or elsewhere. If customers feel they need to leave or avoid patronizing Ananda altogether, as we have,then something really should have been done in the 3 months we have complained about the situation. Ananda is owned and operated by some extremely attentive and honest young Tibetans with Tibetan and Nepali staff. I don’t know anything about the lodging,and this review is for the cafe. While Utpala is quite fake in nature, with no real gluten free options or non dairy “milk” options, Ananda actually does offer those options and they are far superior to the cheap oat milks imported from India available at other cafes. Not an inexpensive place, but you get what you pay for here. Food is really good and made with a loving attitude. It is gratifying to find an authentic, clean place to dine amidst a literal ocean of rubbish, generic excuses for food all around Boudhanath area. The music is varied, and the depressing piano covers of popular american music can be quite agonizing at times (i actually left today because i couldn’t listen to the music and the yelling man any longer)
