Hi, I thought I would shout a high tea for my sisters and a friend as an early Christmas treat. The cost was $40.00 per head and I chose Skycity Orbit because my friend is a coeliac and they had gluten free options. The high tea is for an hour only with our booking at 3.30pm, 15mins passed before we were offer a choose of tea or coffee and another 8-10 mins before the drinks arrived. The waitress had to be asked twice for extra hot water and did not seem to know how this should be delivered? I suggested a small tea pot. The food carrier for two came out with 35 mins left of our hour, when questioned about the gluten free option the waiter did not know about this so disappeared for another 5 mins. When he came back we had another food carrier the same as the first and a seperate plate with gluten free treats with the waiter stating there was more to come. As the food wasn't delivered at the same time we waited so we could all eat at the same time to be polite.....now we have 25-30 mins!
Whilst the view was spectacular the food was sadly lacking hence the two star rating. Everything looked beautiful but the taste was very poor. We all commented on how flavourless the treats were. When the waitress was asked for another round of tea and coffee we were told you need to pay extra for this. Well hello, no where does it say you are only allowed one drink per person. One of my sisters asked for another drink but the others were put off adding extra cost for me to pay. I question the waitress about this but was given a shrug like hard luck, nothing I can do. When I went to pay apparently I didn't have to now pay for the extra coffee? No explaination.
Disappointing to say the lest! I have been to other high tea's but this is definitely the worst. My other experiences have been great especially with the Langham and in future this is where we will go.
Don't call it high tea if you can't deliver!
