My daughter has Celiac Disease and we are just two weeks from diagnosis and learning how to communicate with the restaurants about it. After saying hello, I let them know that we need to ensure everything is gluten free. They immediately got the staff working the counter to wash hands and pulled out a clean cutting board and knives. They checked on each item to ensure we didn't get anything gluten free. I left there having ordered a lot of extra food and wanting to write a great review. I am writing this after Southside BBQ lunch day 2 and can't wait to have it again for lunch tomorrow.

Good BBQ for the price. It's cheaper than a lot of other local BBQ with a price point similar to Poke Jo's. We got the baby back ribs, jalapeño sausage, fatty and lean brisket. I was NOT asked what kind of brisket I wanted and ended up with lean brisket- not what I would have picked for myself. My partner WAS asked what kind of brisket he wanted and got to pick fatty brisket. It was assumed I would want lean, maybe because I'm female? Maybe because I look like I like lean meats. Who can say? They also didn't ask what kind of sausage I would like but I made sure to stipulate that I wanted the jalapeño. Strange that I wasn't asked what I actually wanted. Either way, the waitstaff was nice and now for the future I know if I go back what to tell them so I don't end up getting lean meats. The lean brisket was just okay, but I don't like lean brisket anyway. They fatty brisket was very tasty. The jalapeño sausage was also very tasty. The bold BBQ sauce was rich and tangy. Also, most of their menu is gluten free and if you go to the trouble of looking online, it breaks down exactly what is safe and what isn't. In summation, if you have a BBQ need, you can scratch the itch here for a good price.
