The Higher Buck

Beautiful meal, and catered for my wife with care, who is coeliac. Great staff.

My husband and I came here on our way towards the Lake District - Waddington has a number of bnbs (Bed Ann's Breakfasts). Looks like this restaurant also has rooms available. I was pretty surprised by Higher Buck as someone with dietary restrictions (lactose intolerant and vegetarian). When they noticed I was ordering just a mixed salad and a side of seasonal vegetables - the waiter asked for my oil preference and was very attentive to what I could and couldn't have. If you ask, they also have a gluten free menu. I thought this was all super considerate and accommodating. My husband ordered the fish n chips - which didn't come out greasy. It was well fried and lightly coated in batter. It looked pretty and nicely presented as well. All in all, I'd recommend visiting this place for a humble meal and drink. They have housemade gin, but we aren't gin drinkers. It's a casual yet very proper establishment – the service staff was dressed in button up shirts and the dining area was super clean. Very polite manners and everyone gave a great smile!
