Great food, but… kind of a weird place. Why weird? Two reasons, which won’t prevent me from coming back, but… they’re, well, odd. 1) No changes to the menu, at all, except some gluten free options (if you ask). 2) They charge for tap water.
In the first case, I sorta get it. You start allowing changes and substituons and, suddenly, everyone’s a dang chef. I’ve worked in restaurants - makes sense, even if it’s a little harsh. I think “no additions or substitutions” makes a little more sense, because then you’re only left with folks who want to remove items. So, weird, especially for a small diner, but fair enough.
The second piece is downright strange. Who the heck charges for water? I asked if it was tap water and I was told, “No, it comes from the soda fountain.” And, I almost added, “which… comes from the same place as the tap…” But, the server said, “It comes out ice cold.” She then said, “It’s listed on the menu.”
Ok… this is preposterous. I accept it’s listed on the menu, but who checks to see if water is billable. How about the silverware? The A/C? What about the menus? Should we rent menus? Lease the silverware? What about putting a down payment on some plates? It’s comical.
Seriously, folks - build the cost of water into the menu, if you need the money. But, charging me for tap water is absurd.
