El barrio is one of Birminghams restaurants. You can expect to wait on friday and saturday evenings due to the high demand for delicious food at a reasonable price. The servers work harmoniously during busy times and have a streamlined process so that you have the best dining experience. They are gracious about accommodating dietary needs and restrictions which is so welcome due to the Birmingham food scene largely lacking that. The only things that could make them better is gluten free churros on the menu.
Try the queso!
Enjoy a lively fusion vibe where you can savor unique flavors and a variety of options suitable for diverse dietary needs!

Love Wasabi Juans! My husband loves Mexican and I love sushi, so it's a perfect combination. The staff here are great. I have celiac disease and they are very accommodating with the gluten free options and very mindful. Definitely a must to visit Wasabi Juans!
Enjoy a spot with fresh ingredients, generous portions, and great care taken to accommodate large groups without fuss.

In town with family and 2 of us are celiac. Minus the obvious flour tortillas and breaded fish, it's naturally gluten free!!
Fresh ingredients, awesome portions and cannot forget the staff.
Friendly and patient while helping our large group and explaining the extra steps they take to make sure things do not get cross contaminated.
Perfect for a quick bite or a satisfying takeout, with generous portions that make leftovers a delicious treat.

Fine to eat in, great as takeout/leftovers. I have to eat gluten free, and they were happy to make me an enormous burrito bowl that was an excellent dinner, plus worked as leftovers in my hotel for the next couple days. They even included a giant bag of chips for me to take home!
Great option for those that are gluten-free and on a budget. Build-your own options are great, as well as the pre-made available items. Parking is tough, but there are options around the back. Not a great place for parties over 6 or 8.
Customizable meals steal the show here, plus you won't want to miss the delicious grilled flounder and the retro vibe of bottled drinks!

Love how friendly the cashier was who took the order and love how customizable a meal can be as I have a gluten and dairy allergy. I ordered a burrito bowl with tuna and grilled flounder. The flounder is so delicious! I was shocked that Taco Mama also has a glassed bottle of Dr. pepper!
Enjoy a lively atmosphere with creative tacos and fun drinks, perfect for a casual date night or family outing.

Fun, eclectic environment. Good Guac & queso. Pineapple/Mandarin slaw was a tasty twist. Non-dairy cilantro yogurt was a nice change since I can’t usually eat sauces like this. If you are gluten free, beware of the blackened salmon; it has some type of breading and is deep fried. It tasted really good, but not gluten friendly.
Had a great lunch today. I got the veggie bowl ( gluten free) with all the fixings! Great meal for the price ! Service was very quick for a busy lunch hour . Enjoyed sitting outside as well !
Repeated my order 3x as he nodded continuously like he heard me the first time but kept getting it wrong. I still got the wrong thing. Asked for crunchy tacos, pork and queso cheese with side of rice. The only thing I got right was the rice and pork. No cheese and had to take meat off the soft shells after I went up and got my cheese. I wouldn't have cared but I can't eat wheat flour. Have to try to eat gluten free due to celiac. It also wasn't good. I could have went to taco Bell and it would have been better. My granddaughters order was all messed up too. We're sweet girls and I don't like leaving a bad review but it is what it is...he also rolled his eyes as I was trying to make sure he'd gotten it right. We spent 30 bucks and left hungry.
A hidden gem with outdoor dog-friendly seating, fresh ingredients, and a welcoming vibe that makes everyone feel at home.

Love it here! Jessie and Zee were amazing and full of patience, sincerity and hospitality. Glad Jessie the Mgr explained to me to stay away from one type of tortilla as it has butter as I am vegan and told me to stay away from caramel flavor in coffee bc of dairy. I def want to come back and love them. Most importantly, these folks here take time to help and not negligent by being very clear of all food allergies and differences between vegan, vegetarian, gluten, etc. Other places better have informed friendly staff as them to prevent lawsuits tied with food allergies.
This Chipotle always gets your order right and on time. It is worth the 20 extra minutes to come to this one over the one in Auburn. The staff also does an excellent job making sure to change gloves and keep cross contamination to a minimum when preparing gluten free orders. If you are in the Auburn, Opelika area, just come to this Chipotle. Don't go to the other one unless you like getting your order wrong.
With a lively vibe, this spot boasts a fun menu full of creative meals and a tempting cocktail selection that's perfect for any occasion!

Madison the bartender is so awesome and sweet! I come here regularly as they have so many gluten free options I get to actually enjoy my food that get what I have to. So amazing!
The food was very good, and fit well into a keto diet. Service was fast and the place was clean.
They take steps to avoid gluten for those sensitive, but there are some holes in their process. Replacing a spoon in a dish that has touched glutenous food then was placed back in the dish does not remove the gluten that has already been introduced. Using a new spoon is a start, but the contaminated food in the dish must also be replaced. (They did open a new container of cheese and lettuce.)

Rojo is a staple in the area and I can’t imagine Birmingham without it! Tucked in beautiful Highland Park this gem is a must stop for the local atmosphere and diverse eats. Many gluten free/vegan options, dine in or to go… stuck at home? DoorDash it!!! You have to try the David’s Quesadilla, it’s a personal favorite. Stop in for open mic night for a good time or visit during any other special nights/events. Thank you for everything Rojo!❤️
Food is terrible. Worst Mexican food. It's basically Americanized. Very bland. Gluten free options are minimal. They gave me baked chips that were stale and not even salt on them. I tried 3x to give this place a chance. My friends here like it. I assume because they never had real Mexican food or good Tex-Mex or Cali Mex.
Chill vibe with a helpful team that knows their stuff, making for a great hangout spot in a prime location.

Gluten friendly it is not. If you have celiac you won’t be able to eat here, period.
My family decided to eat here because usually Mexican restaurants are easy to navigate with a gluten intolerance. This was probably the most difficult restaurant I’ve ever visited, aside from maybe a bakery. The manager said they recently changed their roasted chicken and it now contains gluten, so there was not a single protein I could eat. That was a challenge I’ve never encountered. The queso had it. Even the ranch dip on the table contained gluten—which I ate prior to the manager letting me know— it never occurred to me ranch might have it. Again, something I’ve never seen before.
I will say the staff was extremely nice about it, which is why I didn’t take the review under 3 stars. They even comped my meal for the issues (the first dish they brought out clearly had ingredients the manager mentioned had gluten) and never charged me for the guacamole taco they had to replace it with, which was completely unnecessary but appreciated.
If they had just one protein option it would’ve been an completely different experience. I’ve never been to a sit down restaurant where I couldn’t even order a protein—-usually it’s the go to fallback. With it being such a common issue, I hope one day they can try to be just a little accommodating, especially given that it’s widely assumed a Mexican restaurant will have plenty of options.
Good food. Reasonably priced. Fun atmosphere. A variety of different kinds of tacos to choose from. Not just your typical tacos. There are other options as well but we all had tacos. There are a some gluten free options if you ask.
Experience an accommodating vibe with a focus on safety and attention to detail that makes your visit feel secure and enjoyable.

I don't know the secret to happiness in life, but I've never been sad at this Mexican restaurant. The food and service is amazing, every time I've been. They're always more than willing to accommodate to my gluten free and dairy free lifestyle. They are open about what the food is made with, and the owner is so welcoming and inviting. Over time you'll see it truly does feel like a small piece of home.
Consistently delivers delicious meals for take-out, making it a reliable choice for a quick and satisfying bite.

I've been here before, years ago for dine-in. This time I stopped in for some quick take-out. I got the steak fajitas for my husband, and the shrimp and rice with white queso sauce for myself. Never a disappointment.
I'm gluten-free. My dish is perfect for me.
I'm sure there are other menu items too.
We eat here weekly. Best location in Alabama. Best staff, super friendly. And they take gluten free and special orders serious. 5-star service and food.
Absolutely love the street tacos! Very accommodating for those of us with celiac disease or gluten sensitivity. The staff is friendly, the prices are great, the food is awesome. Can’t say enough good things about this place!
Expect vibrant decor and a cozy vibe with ample outdoor seating, perfect for enjoying snacks while exploring the local area.

Literally everything is fantastic. Homemade tortillas, fresh & colorful ingredients, an authentic menu with something for everyone- low carb, gluten free, vegan…with creative little touches like mango on the gulf shrimp tacos. Picky eaters? They have the basic staples like bean burritos and cheese quesadillas too. I’m not sure if they still do breakfast on Friday mornings, but I loved when my schedule would permit me to pop in for a breakfast burrito. I’ve never had anything that disappoints- everything is seasoned well; nothing is scorchingly spicy and it’s always so fresh and made to order. Portions are definitely ample. Staff are always friendly and seem to enjoy being there. Decor is bright and cheery; it’s easy to forget I’m in small town Alabama. There are only 3 booths, but the table and chairs are comfortable enough and allow for larger groups if necessary. I love the patio seating, which is dog friendly. It’s right off the square, so it’s easy to walk around and visit other business or window shop before or after; even get your order to go and enjoy your food in the park in the square. I can’t brag on this place enough; it’s a whole vibe. Every time I go my native southern Californian heart leaves happy- Heirloom is like a little taste of home 🩵

Best Mexican restaurant I’ve ever been to! Our food came out in less than 5 minutes and the food was fresh and delicious. They catered to my brothers food allergy (gluten) and were very friendly. Amazing service, amazing food, and an amazing atmosphere!
