A warm and inviting cafe beside the city marina surrounded by a number of cafes and next door to a museum and short walk to the Kauri Clock Museum. Good selection of gluten free food.
A must-visit spot with chill vibes, unique art, and a tempting menu that keeps everyone coming back for more in a great location.

We're usually in too much of a hurry when we visit Whangarei to take time out in a cafe but yesterday the conditions were right and we ducked in for a light lunch. We both loved this small, friendly cafe and especially the super-strong coffee. The oat milk latte was superb. We didn't have time to order one of their main meals (another time...) but chose from the cabinet: a taco wrap and a veg muffin. Each of these came with accompanying sauces and my wife commented on how usually 'vegetable muffins' means the tiniest sliver of vegetable matter amongst all the gluten, but at the Dragonfruit Cafe it was packed full of veg and very filling. My taco wrap was in two pieces and also very filling. I'm not a big fan of "fake" meat (in this case a kind of vegan mince) and I much prefer beans but it was tasty enough to meet requirements and kept me going all afternoon. I prefer a little more "zing" to my food and perhaps there could have been some lemon seasoning or a bit of spice, but perhaps my tastebuds were just having an off day. Regardless, highly recommended and I'm looking forward to trying some of the other menu items.
Chill spot with a lovely view, tons of seating, and a diverse menu that'll keep everyone happy.

I love coming here as someone who has coeliac disease. There are lots of yummy gluten free options and even a gluten free menu. Thank you for providing a range for coeliac sufferers that includes more than lettuce and fruit!
Charming spot with a serene fountain, perfect for a cozy evening, where tasty offerings delight those with special dietary needs.

Went for a casual early dinner with a coeliac guest. The staff were so so friendly. They really made a great niggt. There were so many GF options, even deep fried, we may have over indulged.
Might be a different vibe later in the evening, but for us it was a great night with tasty food and great service.
Delicious cabinet food and mouthwatering cakes with fantastic coffee make this a must-visit spot for food lovers!

My family had a really nice brunch here! The menu is pretty inclusive with lots of vegetarian, vegan and gluten free options. I forgot to take a photo of my meal for the review but I got the vegan spiced mushroom dish and it was so nice! I also had fries with vegan aioli and a flat white with oat milk - also really good! The service was a little chaotic being very busy and a relatively new cafe, so even the staff are still learning what the menu items are - but everyone was super friendly.
Great atmosphere but that's where it ends.
They put Gluten Free on most of the menu but only had one option that was actually Coeliac friendly. Do not recommend for people with actual dietary requirements.
Discover a hidden gem in a busy lane with big portions and a delightful vibe that makes it a must-visit in Whangarei.

Expensive for what you get. Save your $5 extra for Gluten Free and just order a normal pita with no pita as that's all you get. Otherwise meat was good but salads nothing special.
Enjoy a light and airy vibe with a tasty range of treats and plenty of parking, perfect for a relaxed visit on the terrace.

Friendly staff, delicious scones & muffins, good coffee, light & airy. They do a good range of cabinet good including gluten-free, as well as meals off the menu. All food looks very tasty. Usual prices. Plenty of parking, very clean. The only possible drawback is the lack of character as it is in a traditional hotel, and there is nothing that can be done about that. Definitely recommend for relaxed visit inside or outside on the terrace.
Enjoy a vibrant waterside vibe perfect for relaxing solo or with loved ones, complete with creative drinks and a lively atmosphere.

Have dinned at Lone star Whangarei a few times now and it has been good but very disappointed by our recent experience.
It was quite quiet when we first arrived but did get a bit busier while there. Either way we didn't see much of our waitress. First complaint was a 1/4 strength coffee was made quite strong but this was remedied. Secondly my sister was told her lasso meal was unavailable and asked to choose something else which she did only to find out that it was actually my new porker meal that was unavailable. This was only after I had started to eat my meal and said this doesn't seem like what I ordered that my sister noticed that it was what she had ordered!! The lasso isn't something I would have ordered as I don't eat a lot of gluten.
I would have been okay with the mistake if staff had been apologetic but no one was and blame was but elsewhere on the mistake. We were then going to be charged for the more expensive lasso meal that I didn't even want (except I ate because I was starving by time meals finally arrived). So we did end up only paying for the slightly lesser new porker meal but a bit disappointing having to eat a meal I never ordered or wanted and staff not even caring. I really doubt I will be back or anyone else from our party of 11.
Great customer service! Yummy healthy food options - my first encounter with a wholemeal linseed croissant. Really tasty! The coffees were very fast, even with a nearly full cafe, and they were able to accommodate gluten free dairy free dietary needs. They had cute clip on high chairs for the baby, and fresh, modern decor. Definitely a repeat customer.
