Quaint little restaurant with inside and deck dining. The waitress was delightful and the food was good. We had a meat eater, a vegetarian and a gluten free eater. We were all satisfied. Nothing fancy for lunch but all good food.
Tortugas is an awesome, local, family-owned spot. Two buddies and I dropped in here for a bite after a motorcycle ride from Charleston to Edisto. Chris & Sheila, the owners, could not have been nicer or more accommodating. One of us is a Celiac, and they made sure that he was able to enjoy the experience and offered alternatives.
We ate outside on the covered dock right on the water in the rear of the restaurant. It was the only available seating. Unfortunately, it was a slightly cold and blustery day with overcast skies and a constant drizzle, but the food was tasty enough.
I had the Surf ‘n Turf Burger, which was huge. I finished half of it. Pimento cheese, chopped lettuce, grilled onions, and pickles provided a unique, but enjoyable flavor profile with the grilled shrimp and burger. Came with some crinkle fries as a side. My wife had the grilled shrimp tacos. The shrimp were massive. I’ve never seen such big shrimp on a taco before; big, juicy, and well cooked. Unfortunately they only had flour tortilllas as an option. My wife is gluten free.
Server was attentive and courteous. I enjoyed the surrounding view of the intercoastal water and many birds watching us eat. The steel chairs were a little uncomfortable to sit in after a while. Some
chair pads would’ve been a nice touch.
There was also a live musician inside. Will definitely come back again as there are not many restaurants on this island and some of them have strange hours.
