Wow, just …..wow. We are from Wellington and thought we would pop up to Palmerston North to see our son on a course. We had numerous recommendations for this place let’s give it a go. From the awesome conversation we had with the reservation person to the wonderful welcome and staff. The night was such a success. Actually worth the 3 hr round trip from Wellington. Well I love to say the pasta was loved, the gluten free burger was one of the best my wife has ever had and the meet tray my son and I shared was almost too big….almost, but if i did say all that then maybe next time I went there it would be too busy and we would miss out. A little disappointed that they were out of mulled wine, but I know the ski season was winding down. My husband loved his burger. My glass of wine was tasty. Nice that they had gluten free options. Good cider selection.
The servers were also being trained, which is to be expected in this transition season. They were very nice, but did not know the menu terribly well. But again, to be expected. I think my issue here was that if the servers had known the menu a little bit better, I would’ve had a better experience in terms of ordering, because I ordered the pumpkin soup, which was delicious, and then I ordered the pumpkin pasta, which tasted quite like the pumpkin soup. And if the server had known they were using a very similar sauce for the pasta, I wouldn’t have two things that tasted the same. They were both good, but it was a lot of pumpkin! I knew I was getting pumpkin pasta and pumpkin soup, but I didn’t think it would be almost the exact same sauce. But, of course, the kitchen is using economy of a scale, and would serve it with the same (or similar) sauce. It just would’ve been nice if the server told me that. Regardless, everything was very good. I’m so glad they have a restaurant like this at the inn, because it’s so convenient to just bop downstairs and have a lovely meal.

We ordered 3 x Eggs Benedict $19 & The full grill $23 Fantastic Prices & Generous portions and tasty hollandaise sauce. Highly recommend for meals, muffins and good quality cappuccinos, Much appreciation to the staff at Thyme 2 Ryes for serving us lunch right on closing time. Such a refreshing cafe! The set up is so light, modern and lovely, with beautiful attention to detail from the shape of the tables to the coffee mugs. Most importantly the food is healthy, fresh and modern as well. It definitely stands out from all other cafes in Levin. There is a good variety to choose from in case you are Keto or Vegan or gluten free. I had Berry Tea with my meal and it had actual berries in it. It was very full of flavour. The staff is lovely and very polite and well presented .
The whole place is so clean, it's almost radiant . This is your must visit in Levin.
