I was a regular some time ago at this BJ's location and recently revisited with my east coast boyfriend to show him the famous pizookie(or as he calls it "pazonka" lol)!!
We were very pleased with the attention and care from our server Aprill *with two LL's ;)* She was extremely patient with my indecisiveness and was very helpful with finding the right substitutions for a fellow veg-head!! I ordered the peanut soby noodles with NO chicken ;) and Joe was definitely satisfied with the gluten free bbq chicken-less pizza!! Sugar Shack Cafe is just outstanding! First of all, I called a few weeks before our visit to Huntington Beach to find out about gluten-free or gluten-friendly options and they were very helpful. When we finally did visit, our first visit was excellent and our second visit was even better! It was pretty busy yesterday and our server, Julia, handled it smoothly and was very friendly and helpful, an excellent server. This morning we had the pleasure of being served by (I think the owner/manager Ryan), who was warm and welcoming and friendly. Really made us feel comfortable. And his wife (I don’t think we got her name, sadly) took over service this morning and she was awesome, too. Very friendly, welcoming, and great with the coffee refills and everything else.
The food was EXCELLENT. I know, you might be thinking how excited can you get about breakfast, but it was great. Coffee was delicious, bacon was crispy, eggs were fluffy, hash browns were particularly good - crispy, not the least bit greasy, just great! And the eggs Benedict (day two, this morning) were out of this world! First of all, I’ve almost never had an eggs Benedict dish come out hot, in any restaurant, ever, but here it came out hot! And the Hollandaise was great, not too lemony, smooth as silk; the ham was tasty, too! Nice English muffin too. Just the perfect eggs Benedict.
PLUS - and a BIG plus for my wife and me - it’s open at 6 AM! And I love the ambiance with the surf photos on the walls, and it’s small but comfortable inside. And you CAN eat outside if you want.
To me, this is the exact kind of breakfast experience you want, and I’m happy to support this business and highly recommend it to others!
