This was not our original choice but we decided to try somewhere new. It is located a bit off the beaten track but not difficult to get to. Parking is on the roadside and you can either end up a few hundred yards away or, if you are lucky, next to the pub.
We were a large group of four adults and five children and were given two little comfortable rooms separated by a couple of steps in this historic and intimate pub.
The menu is interesting, varied and not expensive with something for everyone. There is also a separate menu for those with gluten related disorders. We tried a variety of options and loved all of them, in particular I had the “sea crumble” special and it was delicious, plus I sampled a couple of pints from their choice of real ales. All of the children enjoyed their meals and finished most of it. The 14 year old, who can eat for England, couldn’t eat all of his pizza so that tells you something about the portion size!
Unusual for a pub but there is also a small bakery on the premises with some of the most amazing pastries. Some of these goodies were purchased for eating at home.
All of the staff are friendly, attentive and helpful to ensure you enjoy your time there. We can’t wait to go again. Thank you all at the Black Cock

I had a very disappointing experience with the gluten-free pizza at this restaurant. The pizza I was served was undercooked and raw in the middle, making it completely inedible. Being hungry, I only managed to eat the wedges, but the raw center was unacceptable. When I raised the issue with the waitress, her response was incredibly dismissive. First, she tried to gaslight me by claiming that "this is how gluten-free pizzas are." As someone with celiac disease who has eaten plenty of gluten-free pizzas, I know the difference between a properly cooked pizza and a raw one. When I reiterated my concern, she made a snarky comment about how other people usually compliment their gluten-free pizza instead of showing any remorse or attempting to resolve the issue.
The poor service didn’t end there. There was no drink menu provided, which made ordering a drink unnecessarily difficult. I ordered a Coke but was served what seemed like a sugar-free version without any clarification—something I don’t enjoy. On top of that, our table by the window was uncomfortably cold, adding to the unpleasant experience.
I had visited this place before, and the gluten-free pizza was fine, which is why I decided to come back. Unfortunately, this time it was a complete letdown. The combination of raw food, rude service, and poor attention to customer comfort left me very disappointed. I won’t be returning anytime soon.

Me and my children came here for an evening meal after them squeezing us in last minute. The service exceptional! I have celiac disease so eating out can be traumatic but these guys know their stuff. Most of the food is made gluten free including the things that go in the fryer. The server talked me through the menu, he didn’t just hand me the allergen book. I ate fillet steak… cooked to perfection and Sticky toffee pudding for dessert. Yes the price is a little higher than most places BUT the quality is worth the extra couple of quid. The setting is perfect and unique and there is parking at park and ride a short walk away. This will be my go to place to in Lancaster going forward. thank you x

The Hall in China street has the best coffee in Lancaster! The range of coffee roasts and produce is spectacular! Very friendly staff and excellent service with occasional live piano and music gigs. Their dairy free coffee is exceptionally good and they have a big-sized super delicious gluten free peanut butter cookie that's a must try! The place is very nice and recent renovations added some uniquely organic and aesthetic interior decor elements fusing nature with a predominantly industrial style.

It's been a while since we have been to this establishment. In fact it's been beautifully refitted since our last visit.
The service I found exemplary. Special mention to Karolina, who was very friendly, smiley and knowledgeable.
One of our party was gluten free and she was delighted to have a lovely pizza and a bottle of beer - both gluten free.
The atmosphere was great- even though the dining area was not full, it was still buzzing.
The only small gripe I have is the toilets the upstairs toilets have been closed. The toilets are just at the back of the restaurant. I gather from the men within our party that there toilets are not really adequate for the size of the building.
That said we will definitely go again.
Charming café with extensive gluten-free pastries and dairy-free coffee alternatives in a cozy setting.

Great atmosphere! Staff are lovely and what a cake selection. Many options for all dietary requirements and saw the staff use specific tongs for my gluten free cake! Wow, baked potato was fresh and fluffy and my partners food looked incredible. Although it was busy we didn’t have a long wait. We will be back soon. Thank you to the staff for a fantastic experience!

Visited today for the first time and won't go again. Slow service just to get a cup of coffee. I've had meals produced faster. The coffee was nice but a bit on the expensive side. We were going to eat there but figured he a coffee took this long maybe we wouldn't bother. Not a great menu anyway. Didn't see any gluten free menus either. Table could have done with a wipe down as it still had marks on from last customer.Such a shame.

We went on a Sunday and ordered sea bass, Della Casa pasta, and sweet potato fries. Everything was delicious. The waitress was very friendly, the place was cozy, and the music was live. Gluten-free beer was served, and a gluten-friendly menu offered plenty of options. I highly recommend it.
