Went to Nevada City for the last Victorian Christmas of the year and decided to stop by Heartwood Eatery for lunch. First of all, the place was packed - as expected for an event this big. The menu had a variety of options, including vegetarian-friendly and gluten-free meals. I had their heartwood bowl with salmon and sauerkraut, an almond butter toast with seasonal blackberry jam, and a latte. Everything tasted amazing and the presentation was a big bonus. Despite a big crowd, food came out pretty quickly. I will say it was a tad on the pricey side (I paid $41), but considering the big portion sizes and the quality of everything I did not mind. Overall, it was a great experience, and I hope to come back the next time I'm visiting Nevada City.
Enjoy a rotating menu of seasonal delights and unique options, with cozy indoor and outdoor seating that invites you to unwind.

This place is terrible. They were “out of pizza” at 7pm and the server was surly about it. He recommended their gluten free that was basically polenta pizza, the worst invention that was ever invented. The best part was when it wasn’t cut and he refused to have it cut, telling us he offered a fork and knife. This is easily the worst pizza place in a hundred mile radius. Walk across the street for the competitor.
A hidden gem with a welcoming vibe and a variety of unique pizzas, perfect for family outings and tasty cravings.

Oh my gosh!! Haven’t been here since I was a teenager. I have been gluten free for a while now and haven’t found anything good in town. Well, we finally tried it and damn it’s so good. My family that is not gluten free even ate some of mine. I had the ranch lovers and so excited to finally have a good pizza place. While there we met the owner Moe and she took the time to talk to us and was such a beautiful woman. I can see now why this pizza joint has been open for 33 years. Can’t wait to go back and try other specialty pizzas!
I've been shopping here since I moved to the area over a year ago, but have never eaten at the restaurant. I've gotten grab and go sandwiches and deli items; they are always tasty and fresh. We ate at the restaurant and got a burger and fries and a club sandwich with gluten free bread. They have a ton of GF options, just about everything on the menu. The meat is absolutely delicious, really high quality, and the fries are indeed fresh! Service was friendly and efficient. I honestly feel like for the quality-to-price value, you can't beat it. I'm sorry I didn't eat here earlier but I definitely will again!
A really great place for regular family fare. Delicious freshmade pizzas and salads. Generous portions. Bring your own gluten free crust to have them build on top of. Take out is available, too, and the best idea in these times. You will be glad you went!
Great place! I had a delicious Americano and they made me a gluten free/ dairy free egg sandwich. The gluten free bread tasted homemade and it was super tasty!
Great pub food and lively local atmosphere. Tasteful vegetarian options include an excellent veggie burger on gluten free bun, goat cheese pesto melt sandwich, salads, and some of the best cauliflower wings I’ve had. I love a bar that also serves probiotic tonics like kombucha and aqua kefir.
We enjoyed a delicious breakfast. The space is inviting and the staff are very nice; especially young JT. I have Celiac and was able to get a safe gluten-free meal. We will definitely be coming back.
This place got me in the door with a sign saying "gluten free and vegan options"! Kosher too. I pigged out on dark chocolate honey comb after they confirmed that there was no dairy in the dark chocolate (wasn't marked "v" probably because honey, but I have a dairy thing not necessarily vegan). My fam is not diet challenged and had other things including a dark chocolate covered caramel marshmallow that is apparently now a favorite thing for someone who doesn't really do sweets! A sweet feat. It was a little slow because there was one gal at the counter and I was a little peeved that they took another customer before me when I was there first but gf/df chocolate (priorities). I would definitely pop in again!
