I ordered takeout, I'm vegan and the truth is, the amount of vegetarian, gluten free, and vegan options they have... they surprised me, I ordered a teriyaki bowl... I ate it an hour later, my God! I'm so surprised at how delicious it was ❤️. It will become one of my favorite places. If I have to accept that they are missing an acai bowl or a sweet bowl

It appears that this issue has been expressed by many people who have seen no changes. Firstly, I am ultimately very disappointed with the values of this restaurant. They certainly could have found a way to maintain the quality of the food, but their focus is not on the quality and experience of the customers. There is no care in what they do, and certainly they have lost customers because of it, myself being one. In a couple of months, I will return to this restaurant and update my review in accordance with my experience. Some of my former-Black-Walnut-Cafe-loving acquaintances and friends have a gluten allergy. Many people said they went to Black Walnut Cafe for a gluten-free meal and nearly everything was below low-quality. One family said everything they got for the gluten-free breakfast was almost inedible, and some things were. The fruit, pancakes, etc., and the manager tried to compensate for the food with some gluten free desserts which were dry, hard, and stale. The family showed me pictures, and the food looked unappealing and old, as though it had been sitting out for days. Many gluten-free people have shared similar stories from this restaurant. Gluten-free people deserve a better experience of food. I spoke to a long-time employee at Black Walnut Cafe, whose name I will not mention for privacy. He said that the food preparation and ingredients decreased significantly in quality, and that many customers are disappointed and regular customers never returned. Many of those I met with online spoke first of their disappointment with the hummingbird cake, as well as how the overall food went down in quality. One woman said her parents absolutely LOVED the hummingbird cake before they changed the recipe and the family never went back. I looked at the hummingbird cake recipe and it is quite a complicated cake. I myself once took my sister to eat the cake, and to this day she remembers it. I recently went a second time, and now the frosting and cake are not nearly as good as they were before, they are completely changed and not at all worth remembering, to say the least. With great care I have taken this matter into consideration, and I truly hope to see a change. I used to be most delighted with this place, and my disappointment is of equal measure, especially after hearing the disappointments of like-minded people who I stand with.

The waitstaff was extremely kind and accommodating, my family has celiac disease and we haven’t eaten Tex-Mex since our diagnosis because it’s so difficult for restaurants to accommodate gluten allergies; however, the waitstaff, manager and chef were extremely knowledgeable about our dietary restrictions and we were able to customise items on the menu and do a fajita without it being marinated which was gluten free and celiac friendly, none of us had a reaction to our food and we had such a great experience here.

Always a good place to grab a gluten free meal. Double double protein style and fries well done. They do a great job, thank you! Also... Flying Dutchman is my favorite instead of fries :)
