This is my absolute favorite spot for group dinners. Every time I come here, I order the karaage mushrooms and cabbage. My guests are usually skeptical as to why I'm ordering vegetables when dining out as opposed to meat. But without fail, they end up loving the mushrooms the most. The cabbage is also light, refreshing, and surprisingly delicious. This is a great place for sharing, with plenty of dishes to try, and splitting the cost makes it very cheap. The sushi tacos are another highlight—I’ve tried three fish-based ones so far, and they’ve all been fantastic. I usually struggle to enjoy raw fish in New Zealand after experiencing better quality in the islands, but Bar Yoku is one of the few places I trust for consistently good seafood. I’ve never left disappointed. If you visit, definitely request a sunken table. They’re super comfortable and turn it into an experience rather than just a meal. I've come here multiple times with people who have allergies, eg. gluten, nuts, and vegan diet requirements. This has never been an issue, and the food still remains delicious! A special mention to the staff, too—every server I’ve had here knows the menu inside and out, is aware of any changes, and is always professional and friendly. They create a welcoming atmosphere with zero awkwardness or judgment, which, unfortunately, isn’t always the case at some places.

Special note for dietary requirements: the menu was extremely detailed when it came to gluten free and vegetarian options, and the staff were also very attentive to this when we ordered. There was lots to choose from for our gluten free table. The menu also said that their mayonnaise and soy sauce were all gluten free too. We ordered chicken teriyaki, tofu, rice, sushi and vegetables to share - everything was incredible. The meal cost $106- for two people but we did have an alcoholic drink each as well. Great service and atmosphere. Thank you to the staff for a great evening.

Me and my partner went here and had lunch on the balcony, absolutely delicious food, albeit smaller portions - but filling. My partner is celiac, so we went for the Gluten Free options as the dishes are made to be shared. We ordered the Thai Black Beef Salad & the Chicken Skewers... no problems, chicken was cooked to perfection and the sauce was unparalleled. Beef had a little bit of gristle but overall was very tender & flavourful. Will definitely recommend & visit again.

This welcoming, family-run restaurant must have the most customer-friendly menu book in the entire city! The dishes are presented by category ... but each group is kept to just one page. Easy-read headings. Large text size. Simple, satisfactory dish descriptions. The food was all (?) gluten free. Our shared dish was delicious. It's a no-nonsense establishment with a relaxed comfortable vibe. When we were there it seemed like at least two tables were taken by regulars, which is an excellent recommendation. You'll enjoy it as much as we did.

Best chinese restaurant in town. They served really tasty and authentic chinese food. The only restaurant we would go for yumcha. There is a wide range of yumcha dishes to choose from. They can even provide yummy dishes for people with special dietary such as gluten free and vegetarian. Not only serving the best dishes, their customer service is a spot on! We always felt welcomed by the friendly staff at Maxine's Palace. Highly recommended to everyone! However, do remember to make a booking before going as they are always super busy especially in the weekend!

Booked in for 7.30 (an hour and a half before closing) service was perfect, so quick. Sister is coeliac so extra care does need to be taken. It was mentioned to our server, who didn't seem sure at first, but they confirmed by asking "so that's gluten free?", which is great! She had no issues with the meal, which makes it even better. All meals were super tasty and decent size! We will definitely be back!

This is a great restaurant. Friendly staff and tasty food. Portion sizes are good and so are the prices. Allergy friendly - virtually everything is gluten free (except naans of course) and they're able to make most things dairy free, too. I'm a regular here and that won't be changing anytime soon.

Some of the best Japanese food and sushi in chch! Their rice is always perfectly seasoned and cooked to just the right texture, and the cuts of fresh salmon used always melt in my mouth. Very consistent quality. They do delicious gluten free teriyaki too!

Really good. Sushi train is great and had some unexpected surprises, a la carte menu is good too. More vegan/vegetarian options would be appreciated. Would also be nice if the little labels on the stuff coming through the sushi train telling us if it’s vegetarian,gluten free, etc. Will be back!

Our new favourite sushi spot! We loved it here, the staff are friendly, the atmosphere was great (not sure if it was just because it was Christmas eve but there were candles on all the tables). We picked this place so that we could pick our own sushi and avoid waste, the plates, tongs and chopsticks were all reusable and the ginger, wasabi and soy sauce were all help yourself / plastic free. There were Gluten Free options (soy sauce included). We were thrilled with all the reusable options, especially the chopsticks! We would give 10 stars if we could and the only thing that would make it better would be reusable napkins so that the entire experience is completely waste free. Great work, Team Omi! We're looking forward to our next visit.

Ordered vegan dish take away. While eating I noticed what looked like egg!!! Yes they added egg to a vegan dish. Be careful as they promote being vegan and gluten free friendly.
