I was there an hour 40mins ago and bought brownie cheesecake slice and a Mince & Cheese pie which they heated up from cold for me, made today apparently. Together they cost me $17.50!!
There are no prices displayed so if you're going here expecting to be satisfied on a typical NZ bakery budget then think again, the gluten free premium is rife here.
Do note the lack of stars on this review reflects only on the pie of which I'm disappointed, I am half way through the pie now and I still haven't tasted the filling. For what I'm guessing is a $9 pie it's not up to par compared to much better pies in the Wellington region that are cheaper and packed to the brim with filling.
Speaking of which I've gotten to the filling at last and it tastes great but still no sign of cheese. Upon finishing the pie now my conclusion is there's less than 1 teaspoon of cheese in this pie.
Sorry guys but my experience of a most basic pie is lacklustre. Unlikely this review will directly affect your high rating but pie wanters should know what to expect.
Stopped for some tea and coffee but ended up ordering The Briscoff Dream which took longer than expected and yummy hot chocolate. Beautiful quotes across the cafe. Plenty of gluten free option available. Was a bit crowded and had to stand in line and worth it though.
Quality fish'n'chips, have a gluten free fryer so the coeliac in the family didn't miss out. Super busy at peak times. Recommend ordering online for pick up.
What a find
Food awesome lots of choice
amazing friendly and knowledgeable about menus
Gluten free options and had oat milk so all good
Would highly recommend this cafe
Ten out of Ten for me
Never been here before and I will certainly make this my Otaki café of choice.
Amazing choice for gluten free folk, & eaters of all food!
Outside eating was my favourite under the shade of the trees.
Staff were attentive, delicious food was soon at our table.
Went here after a ceremony, food was fast and extremely good! Extensive vegetarian and gluten free options and amazing service. Had a mix up with the orders and they replaced no questions asked and at no charge- absolutely incredible service. Well worth the money!
Lovely, fresh, healthy meals. And they cater for gluten-free, which is necessary for me. Love the different sauces. And most people rave about the delicious biscuits that I bought for them. Prices are reasonable. The shop is clean and well kept. The ladies are very professional and make the food precisely and neatly. Super experiences.
I've had a descent experience here before but was a bit averages this time.
Service: Server didn't know what coeliac means. Everyone that ordered chips was up looking for tomato sauce. Servers blasting spray cleaner everywhere but not really wiping the tables.
Food: $2 upcharge for aoili on a small $28 burger. No presentation.
Coffee is incredibly strong tasting, great if that is your thing I suppose. Server plopped the coffee a down and left us to figure out which was Americano and which was long black
Atmosphere: place is loud.
The cold wind from the door leading outside was unpleasant.
Tables was cramped for 2 people and was set with 4 chairs.
We had lunch here with three kids. I had asked earlier about gluten free options for our celiac kid and we were confident. When the food arrived, the waitress checked again and realised that the toast was not the GF bread. She apologised, took it back in and came back with a complete new meal. Contamination is taken seriously and we were happy!
Thank you for catering for celiac and being so attentive!
The food was AWESOME!
OPEN FOR EASTER!!
Fantastic, and they're open on Good Friday and Easter weekend, too! Delicious burgers, great chips, delicious gelato, and they went the extra mile to provide gelato in a cup with a clean scoop (scooping from fresh gelato) to be coeliac safe too!
*closed on Mondays and Tuesdays*
Excellent experience with gluten-free and regular menu options. The gluten-free options are always carefully prepared which is very much appreciated by this very sensitive coeliac! AA++
A solid Italian restaurant oozing with style.
Nestled in Midland Park, Astoria greets you with a moody space filled with the smells of bread, olive oil, and matured cheeses. The waiters are warm and attentive. You will never feel rushed or forgotten and no ask feels out of place.
The menu has plenty of gluten free options, many of which can be adapted. For example the linguini pawns were served with gluten free penne. However, Astoria cannot guarantee dishes are safe for coeliacs. Unfortunately fresh bread is prepared in a shared cooking environment. The wait staff will ask you if you are coeliac as you place your order.
The food is a modern interpretation of classic Italian flavours. In particular, we would recommend the burrata and beef cheek ragu. The burrata was fresh, delicate, and soft, while the ragu has a strong umami flavour.
The drinks menu will appeal to a wide variety of taste buds, preferences, and ages. You will also find a range of Italian drinks and sprits like the Camperchi Chianti Riserva and Limoncello spritz.
Overall Astoria is a good restaurant. However the menu, although varied, lacks the flare to really wow. It is also a shame that the dishes aren't safe for coeliacs and the only pasta alternative is penne. A fundamental aspect of Italian cuisine is pasta variety which is flattered by only one option for all.

I’ve been a big fan of Boss Bagels for years now and they never let me down. Fantastic coffee that’s actually affordable and not over priced is the main seller for me and the mouth watering bagels seal the deal! Just tried the new Reuben inspired bagel ‘Ruby Ru’ yesterday and as usual they have hit the mark! Will keep coming back as they are also amazing about being able to provide gluten free options for me , and as a celiac this means a lot
