I had read this had good gluten free items and it was great to have so many choices I could eat. Although they don't have a separate kitchen if you need that. My husband shared my blueberry compote on his pancakes and still had plenty to take home. Real half and half for coffee and we think real butter. Our waitress, Twilene, was so helpful and even made a new pot of decaf, even though we thought it was fine.
Loved it! So glad we found this spot. Dog friendly. Gluten-free choices galore. Super sweet lil spot. Saving it for whenever we are in town again. Thank you!!
Me and my fiancé came here during our vacation, we got the eggs Benedict and breakfast burrito. I’d like to call myself a Benedict connoisseur, it’s my favorite breakfast, and I get it everytime we go to breakfast. When I tell you this was the best eggs Benedict I’ve ever had in my life, it was really nice they had a gluten free option for it as well, the arepas are to die for, I didn’t even know what it was until now, my fiancé said the breakfast burrito was the best thing he’s ever had 10/10 food. From the time we ordered to when we got the food took a little bit and we were getting a little hangry, but you can’t rush perfection. We ended up going to seaside again 2 days later but I was closed on the day we came back!!!! We were so sad hahaha but this was the best breakfast we have ever had.
I hate rating it this low because the chefs here consistently deserve 5 stars. However, the service here was absolutely terrible this time and I want management to see this. We ordered to go and when we got there today we learned that someone else had walked in, said they'd paid online, and walked out with our meals. The person at the front did not verify this resulting in these other individuals walking out with over $200 worth of food as we had not yet paid (we then later watched them return and request a refund because they received the wrong meals). They had to remake our meals, however when we got home and went through them, we discovered that the incompetent person who had taken out order had ignored correction and provided fried salmon instead of the wild salmon meal (which were 2 of the 6 orders we had placed)- also given a gluten allergy this was a serious issue. We then had to wait to have these meals remade, again. By the time we finally were able to sit and eat, 2 hours had passed since we originally went to get our food and all but the 2 salmon meals were cold. And then, just to top it all off, while eating, we discovered that they had also failed to recognize the nut allergy and put nuts on the salad. After all of that, honestly at least some of our bills should have been comped, but that was not offered. That worker cost this business literally hundreds of dollars today and failed to verify that allergy needs were properly met.
Full disclosure: I have been their distributor of cold cuts and cheeses since they opened about 15 years ago. I haven't written reviews for other customers. This exception is well deserved.
Most restaurant owners look to cut expenses by using cheaper proteins, but David (owner), has always insisted on using only the best quality.
For one example, they buy the pastrami navels even though it costs 22% more than bottom rounds to serve the same traditional taste and texture that made it famous in NY. Few places in Oregon have this quality. All their meats (Thumann's brand) are free of MSG, fillers, artificial colors and flavors, have about 1/3 less sodium than most, and are certified gluten-free. Whole muscle meat that's not watered down and minimally processed naturally tastes better!! Even the swiss and provolone are high end.
Portion sizes are generous, and menu prices are in line with Portland's quality sandwich shops even though this is a prime location.
Yes, the lines are long, sometimes spilling out onto the sidewalk but there's a large menu board hanging from the ceiling so customers can choose while waiting. That keeps the line moving quickly while the staff efficiently make the sandwiches to perfection.
A lot of their business is repeat, and there's a loyal following of locals. Dave is a pretty big guy which to some might initially appear intimidating, but that is just a misperception since he truly is a "gentle giant" loved by everyone who knows him, and he takes good care of the staff so please support this local business.
I've been going to Sam's since childhood, and now while bringing my own child in on Friday, the experience was very different.
It had been about 3 years or so since I'd been to Seaside, so I hadn't been since the change in ownership. I was a little worried when I saw the new signs, but inside didn't look much different (except clean with new lights!).
The waitress (I'm so sorry I didn't catch her name, but she said she's s been there 20 years and I remembered her from her musical notes, was so nice and told us about the change after I was noticeably excited about all of the new changes. (Delicious gluten-free buns and the clams are made in wine now instead of beer!!!!) She was so helpful and quick helping me get my little one settled and happy and had just made fresh coffee, so extra bonus!
I had the cheeseburger and it was fantastic. Their fries are as greasy as ever and soooo good and everything was just the perfect meal to end our short trip before having to head home.
With so many places closing, I'm so happy to see Sam's thriving!
A great quick breakfast option. Had the Beachcomber Breakfast Sandwich with avocado and gluten free bread. The staff was really friendly and there were many seating options.
