I live in Alberta and am newly diagnosed NCGS (non-celiac gluten sensitivity). It was really hard to find a Gluten-Free Sourdough starter near me and Marcelles’ sent me an envelope when I reached out. They were so helpful to speak with. I’m rehydrating my starter today and excited to see the progress!
We passed by Port Perry many times but today the whole family (8 of us) decided to go in for lunch after reading positive reviews here.
The young blonde waitress was very nice and polite. Although the place can use some renovation, it was clean and the lights were made out of mason jars and regular light bulbs, creative!
The soup was good, burger/sandwich/wrap were good portion, the large supreme nacho was huge. The most interesting dish was the blooming onion, must try! My wife was happy too because they have gluten-free buns available.
We did have to wait about 25 mins for the food (not busy at all on Friday noon) but it was acceptable considering there were 8 of us.
Overall, a pleasant surprise and we would be back some day to try the desserts. A little gem in Port Perry!
I was there for lunch with 5 friends. The food was wonderful and hot. We each had
something different so we.had a sample of everything. The menu is very extensive and they even helped with gluten free. My 93 yr old friend was able to choose from the Children's Menu. All in all we had a wonderful time...thank you! ⭐
We were very pleasantly surprised to find this little gem in Port Perry. Our server, Rina, was excellent (I don't know how she remembered all of the specials). They are very knowledgeable about gluten free and provide a number of safe options. Rina even brought me gluten free Little Northern Bakehouse bread lightly toasted so that I didn't have to watch everyone else eat the appetizer. I can't tell you how much I appreciated this gesture.
The food was incredible with generous portions. We will absolutely be returning.
Very limited gluten free- no breads , no cookie options and the gf were sugar heavy- really nice staff though even when they dropped the last items I ordered so I was not able to buy anything
Have eaten here many times. Unfortunately, after tonight we won't be returning. Why?
- We were seated at a table which was disgustingly sticky. Our hands stuck to the sides of the table.
- We were switched tables and promptly forgotten. We had to flag a waitress down to place our order.
- When ordering I asked if the yellow curry was spicy as I can't tolerate any spice and was advised it was not. Unfortunately, it was 5 alarm spicy when it arrived I had to let them know I couldn't it. While the chef came out and offered to make a new one, I was told that I need to tell them when ordering. I advised the chef I had done this. While the remade curry was less spicy, it was still spicy. I ate a bit and then left the rest.
- 4 of the 6 of us are celiac and cannot eat gluten and were careful to confirm our orders would be made gluten free.
- We were then brought out salad with dressing and unfortunately we could not eat this and had to send it back.
- The non-celiacs did not receive their salad or soup.
- They forgot to make my daughter's order. Everyone's food arrived and my young daughter was sad and hungry as hers just never arrived until we followed-up twice on where it was.
- My young daughter loves sushi but doesn't like sashimi and they have always substituted the sashimi in the salmon lovers for more maki for her and asked for this. When the order came, it hadn't been substituted. As I couldn't eat the curry, I just ate it so it wasn't wasted.
- One order of maki never arrived and we ended up just removing it from the bill.
- We were never provided with chop sticks or gluten free soy sauce. We were short one set of cutlery. We ended up just getting up and getting it ourselves.
- Half the drink orders arrived, the other half never came. We had to follow-up twice.
- They were nice enough to provide containers for the left over food... except the lids were the wrong size.
- We had asked at the time or ordering to have the bill split into two, and were careful to place orders together that would be on each bill. The bill was not split and the waitress had to redo it.
Not a big deal but at this point the entire dinner was such a calamity you couldn't help but laugh at how badly everything went. Once at home, my husband was ill and suspects he was glutened. Unfortunately, we won't be returning and will instead try the other sushi restaurant in town and the new thai express.
