Went for a late lunch after visiting the Childrens Museum. The burgers were phenomenal, very tasty beef and homemade gluten free buns. Duck fat fries were an extra special treat. Topped it all off with milkshakes.
One of my favorite spots in all of Richmond, with fresh pasta made right behind the counter. Yes, it is known they have the best smoked salmon in town (and reasonably priced). But their to-go meals, especially the microwave friendly ones, are also fantastic values (~$8).
Their fresh and dried pastas are outstanding and come in shapes and flavor profiles you can't find elsewhere (the black pepper linguine is so simple yet insanely good; they have gluten free options, as well). Their jarred sauces are as tasty as any I've had; I prefer them to Rao's, for example, and they're $1-2 less.
This isn't a comprehensive Italian market where you can find every imported good known to humankind, it's a curated selection with the majority made in house, which is rare these days.
The family who runs it and the folks who work there are wonderful, as well. It's always a pleasure visiting Bombolini and I'm grateful to live within walking distance.
Except dairy (cheese) and honey, all the other items are vegan
They have vegan cheese and dairy cheese as options
Their gluten free bread contains eggs, the regular gluten bread is vegan
Even though they have a gluten free pizza this establishment is not at all celiac safe. The GF pizzas were put on the same pizza trays as gluten pizza. Even after disclosing my allergy they used the same sauce spoon from regular pizza on mine. Changed gloves only after me specifying to do so. Be wary if you have a gluten allergy. Also be aware that there is no seating available. The staff were very friendly, just not food allergy aware.
El Pope is delicious! I highly recommend the pupusas! I got the bean/cheese and zucchini/cheese and both were great. Lots of gluten free and vegetarian options. My husband got the chicken torta and said it was one of the best sandwiches he’s had. We will definitely be back to try more!!
Such a cute place and the food here is amazing! I’m gluten free and vegetarian and there are so many options on the menu if you have dietary restrictions! 10/10 recommend their pad thai too!
I’m obsessed with the miso marinated mushrooms in the Vietnamese bowl especially but all of the bowls are delicious! Vegan, vegetarian and gluten free options. Fresh made juices and an assortment of local vegetables to buy to go from their farm!
Service is fast, efficient and friendly. Nice front patio to dine-in with tabletop fireplace heaters. My favorite lunch in town!
This was our first time at Kuba Kuba, and it will not be the last! First of all, the food and atmosphere at this Cuban restaurant are very authentic. The menu is huge, packed with delicious options, and makes it hard to pick one thing.
We visited Kuba Kuba for lunch on a weekday. At the time of arrival, they were not too busy. We arrived a little before the lunch rush. We did not have to wait for a table. There was some outdoor seating, and the weather was perfect to eat outside. A few other people had the same idea, and the outside seating was full. We sat indoors.
For those who are vegan and gluten-free, you will NOT have an issue finding something to eat here.
Our first orders were appetizers. We ordered Tostones/Plátanos [deep fried plantains, freshly made at today's state of ripeness] and Empanadillas [two traditional pastries stuffed with spinach topped with their house-made lime sour cream & veggie garnish]. We received huge portions of delicious Empanadillas & fried plátanos/tostones.
It is safe to say that the majority of the dishes are Cuban-inspired with some twists on the traditional.
For my entrée, I ordered The Paella Vegeteriana. And let me tell you, it was a monstrous portion in a Jethro-sized bowl. My order could have served at least two people. I couldn't finish it, I had to take half of it home. It was loaded with traditional Spanish rice dish with artichoke hearts, roasted red peppers, asparagus, tomatoes, potatoes, peas & spinach. Topped with avocado and Kuban bread.
It was not the traditional Mexican-style but rather a huge pile of ingredients layered into a bowl. It was more than I really should have eaten in one sitting. I got an additional side of plátanos. With my meal, I went with their freshly squeezed Limeade.
The portions are surprisingly huge for the price, and we left with a bag of take-home food. I would highly recommend visiting Kuba Kuba.
My family has been working our way through the menu, and we haven't gottn anytting we didn't love yet! Super friendly place, with some of the best hotdogs and sandwiches in town. I cannot speak highly enough of Global Fusion.
Also, gluten free options are easy and tasty. A good option for dietary restrictions.
We hadn't visited Heritage in years but headed back last night to see what they've been up to. Wow. INCREDIBLE cocktails, wine, food, and service. We ordered the fried oysters which the chef made gluten free for me and they were so amazingly melt-in-your-mouth delicious. We also had the cheeseboard with foie gras, the rockfish, the ribeye, and a couple of handcrafted drinks that were wonderfully unique (mine was called Enter The Void). Everything we tried was truly delectable and the flavors/textures were 100% spot on with excellent wine pairings. One of the best meals we've had in awhile. Next time we will save room for dessert! I believe our server's name was Casey- she was outstanding. We will be back for sure.
This place is awesome- definitely casual cute. Lots of options- gluten free, dairy free, vegan, vegetarian… I got the crispy chicken bowl and it was AWESOME. Highly recommend if you’re in RVA!
I love the vibes this restaurant carries. The staff are always exceptionally outstanding in their service. The food is also good if there are dietary restrictions or sensitivities (vegan or gluten free). They accommodate when you inform the staff. The sushi and other meals here are also incredibly good! I love coming to this restaurant. They have me hooked.
