They offer amazing GF salads as well as gluten free pizza crust. They will change gloves and use new cutting utensils for pizza, but it is put into the same oven and surface as regular pizza, so there is a cross contamination risk.
Delicious drinks, fantastic food, great service. I especially appreciate that they can make a majority of the menu gluten-free for those of us that are celiacs. They have a fantastic menu of mocktails as well. Definitely plan on going back
GLUTEN FREE REVIEW:
Absolutely amazing experience with endless Gluten Free options available - both appetizers came with gluten free bread. All pizzas can be made on gluten free crust and pastas can be made with gluten free noodles! Bonus that there is no up charge for gluten free.
The flavors of everything were amazing and the atmosphere was great! Our favorites were the mussels and whipped ricotta. Heads up that the chopped salad was spicy!! We didn’t get to try a gluten free pasta but will be back to do so!
This is an amazing place for gluten free options! They have GF options listed on their menu, but can modify many other items. They have gluten free pasta cooked in separate water and they offer rice crust and cauliflower crust pizzas cooked on separate surfaces. The owner doesn’t have celiac, but has the gene and is well aware of precautions that should be taken. I got the Chicken Parmesan which was modified from their menu. They grilled the chicken instead of frying and used GF pasta. We also got the burrata appetizer and they brought me my own GF bread. The bread is purchased from a local bakery. I can’t wait to go back and try the pizza!
Girls weekend fun and everyone working was very accommodating for our rambunctious group!
Happy to come back, no matter the size of party
Everything I ate was wonderful, pretty sure everyone in the party was happy with their food as well
Berry Sangria was yummy
Zucchini Fritte was perfect especially the dipping sauce - even picky eaters tried this for the first time and liked it =)
I tried the spinach artichoke dip, amazing! Tried it on my Zucchini Fritte ...wow, definitely suggest trying those two together
Tried the calamari with marinara, don't forget to squeeze the lemon juice on the calamari....brings up the flavor a notch =)
My entree was the Chicken Picatta with Gluten-free Penne pasta in place of the spaghetti it comes with. So much flavor, chicken was tender and could cut with my fork, pasta was cooked perfect- especially for Gluten-free pasta 👍🏼👏🏼
I tried a bite off my friend's Chicken Parmigiano- amazing!
They also graciously give a military discount, which I always appreciate.
We were also there after closing time and they weren't trying to push us out the door =)
I called ahead and ordered a gluten free pizza because I have Celiac. When I received the pizza and after I ate a couple of bites I realized it wasn’t gluten free. I went back inside and asked to speak to a manager and explained to him the issue. He was very dismissive of the whole situation and just took the pizza and said he would bring a new one out. No apology or refund. I have been to this location and have had an issue before, but most of the time it’s good service and food just terrible management.
This place is such a hidden gem! The atmosphere is beautifully decorated and cozy, the food is fantastic and our server Allison was an absolute star! She was so personable and knowledgeable of the menu and gave fantastic recommendations. My friend who is gluten free even said that the gluten free options were extensive and delicious! Definitely will come eat here again, can’t recommend enough.
So this was my 2nd time visiting. My first time was great, but this 2nd time was..to put it nicely, less great. My partner & I decided to grab lunch here because I knew they had gluten free options which my partner needs. To start our server was frazzed and all over the place which seemed weird since we were 1 of 5 tables there. We expressed my partner’s gluten & dairy allergy & ordered the skewers with the greek yogurt on the side so that I could eat it. However the skewers came out without the yogurt to which I had to ask a different server who brought it out to being me some & for some reason my server charged me extra for it… My soup was barely warm and we just didn’t enjoy our time there, which is unfortunate since I had a good experience the first time. I hope this was just a fluke but I won’t know unless I go again.
Do not order the pizza if you have celiac. GF pizza is cooked on the same surface as regular pizza. Salad or pasta are your only options. And some of the pasta contains gluten bc the meats either contain gluten or are cooked on the same surfaces. Fortunately the staff is very educated and can let you know what is celiac safe. My chicken broccoli penne was so delicious!! I was very thankful to have such a delicious meal!
If yall have not tried their Sicilian or the new personal pan pizzas, THEN WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR?! God, they're amazing. Easily best pizza I've had in a while. I hope it's here to stay cause that's my new go to now! It's crunchy, yet soft. It's thicccc but it's airy. Naaaaah, they got this perfected.
I highly recommend the Sweet Heat, it's got all the best things. Meat, pineapple, HOT HONEY! I also suggest adding bacon, but that's just me being fat. I crushed the whole pie and I can't wait to try it again with some different toppings!
I've tried their parm sandwiches in the past and they are delish! A friend got some gluten free pasta and he also loved that as well.
But seriously though, pls make those personal pan pizzas permanent! I need those in my life!
One of the best gluten free pizzas I’ve ever had anywhere! My family also enjoyed their regular (not gluten free) pizzas. We’ll be back!
I’m originally from New York and am a pizza snob. Since having to go gluten free a few years ago, I miss real pizza. This was one of the closest things I’ve had (and I travel quite a bit). Very good!
The only constructive criticism I’d give for management to consider is implementing some training/protocols if a customer has an allergy/celiac to try to limit cross-contamination (like using a clean slicer and gloves). I know it’s a lot to ask for a pizza place but it would go a long way for some of us. With that said, the staff was kind and accommodating when I asked to use a clean slicer.
When I ordered I was given a choice of pasta. I ordered rigatoni as my choice. They surcharged me $4 without telling me anything. How is rigatoni $4 more? It wasn’t gluten free or anything. Yet a $4.00 surcharge. That to me is bs. At least tell people there is a surcharge like that. It came out to be a 25 percent surcharge of the entire meal.
I won’t be back.
My friends and I had the opportunity to stop in a few days ago before heading to the airport to go back home. Little Mama's Italian has been on my list of places to try for about a year. I was so excited to see that had gluten-free options. It was well worth the wait. It was the best Italian food that I have had in a long time. What ever you do, you must have one of the fresh mozzarellas they have that is made daily. The service was amazing and everyone that waited on us were very knowledgeable and had an answer for all our questions. We would definitely come back next time we are in town.
After a wonderful lunch at Ilios Noche, I must rave about the delicious and varied menu. We had the most courteous and professional server, Trip. He was so friendly and knowledgeable. I have never had a better meal, great atmosphere and awesome service. Please do yourself a favor and have a meal at Ilios, especially if you are gluten-free. They have a fantastic choice of Mediterranean fare. This has made our Sunday afternoon a very pleasant experience.
Fabulous experience. By far the best Italian food I’ve had in the states. Their beef carpaccio took me back to Florence, Italy! We loved the atmosphere and every aspect of our meal. We dined for Charlotte Restaurant Week and loved trying out some of their specials as well. Their pasta was flawless, perfectly cooked with sauces that held up well. I’m sadly gluten free (celiac) and was thrilled to choose from any pasta, besides one. Most places in Charlotte feature one overcooked pasta substitute, but they provided many gluten free options that were served al dente. My partner got the elk secondi and it was some of the most tender meat we’ve ever had. The drinks were fantastic; dare I say the best old-fashioned in Charlotte? Truly exceptional. Our server was a woman with short hair and glasses- she was simultaneously generous and informative. She made sure I could safely enjoy my meal and timed the food service expertly. Absolutely no notes for this place. I can’t wait to come back and highly recommend it!
The reviews are real - this place is delicious!!! Mom said, "These might be the best wings I've ever had. " The garlic parm wings were wonderful!! They have gluten-free options as well, and the gluten-free cheese pizza was perfect!!
Had dinner there last night and I was amazing. My wife had a gluten free pizza, and she said it was the best she's ever had. I had spaghetti Bolognes and I made sure I used some of their delicious bread to get every last drop of sauce. April was our waitress and she was there when we needed her, and helped me decide what to get. I hope we get her the next time we go

I ordered the stromboli and veal piccata. Both were outstanding!!! The other guests didn't care for their dishes.....one had a gluten free pasta, which she said she is still trying to get used to so maybe that wasn't their fault. The other dish not liked was the eggplant parmesan....it was bland, lacked flavor and despite saying it was a traditional eggplant parmesan, it appeared to only be floured not breaded which was disappointing. Our waiter Frank was excellent!!! .I eat at Portifino's often and will continue to do so as i think it is consistently very good, quality and affordable food which is hard to find now a days!!

Been coming to Sals for almost 3 years...mostly satisfied. Today I order 2 small pizza's, 1 gluten free...picked up total was $53!!! A couple toppings each, nothing crazy. Sadly they have lost a customer for life.
Wonderful experience, food was delicious and service was great. Very accommodating for gluten allergy, pastas can be substituted for homemade gluten free. Will certainly be back.
I love this restaurant for all ages! Their food is homemade and mouth-watering Italian; their salads have freshest greens; great specials and fun nights with mystery dinners and live entertainment, karaoke! I love real table clothes and stellar service, too! They offer gluten-free pasta!
My only regret is that I didn't try this place sooner. It took me over a year of living in the neighborhood to check out Open Kitchen. In my defense, I don't eat gluten; it's an old school Italian restaurant, so I just assumed that they wouldn't have any options for me. I was wrong - not only do they offer gluten free items, but they actually have the best GF pasta and pizza that I've had in Charlotte.
The food is so satisfying and comforting - my husband loves it, too, and he's not gluten free, so the normal food is also delicious! The service is outstanding (the most genuinely kind and caring servers, seriously) , and the atmosphere is homey and welcoming. It has quickly become one of my favorite restaurants in town.
I get that gluten free is a bit much, but could you at least cook it enough to melt the cheese? The people that got regular pizza said that it was great at least.
