Excellent cafe - felt very celiac safe. There is a sign by the till saying that they offer celiac food - the kitchen isn't completely gluten free but the staff were confidently able to tell us about the seperate prep areas and fryers. We also spoke to the owner of the cafe, who brought out our food, who confirmed that they had celiacs in their family. Also there was one counter of food on display that was dedicated gluten free, with salads and cakes. The staff on the till confirmed what hot meals were available to celiacs, and the food was good and came out hot. Very good experience overall.
As a person with awkward dietary restrictions due to coeliac disease and disablin allergies, I often end up either not eating at all because I don't feel safe, or chosing pan fried fish and a green salad without dressing while those around me are enjoying feasts.
Not so at Raupo, where first the waiter and then the cooks went out of their way to understand my needs and make sure they could adapt the meal I chose to both avoid any undesireable repercussions and also to delight me.
I am very grateful. Everything was delicious. The three people with me all raved about their meals, too, and I cannot praise Raupo enough.
Dangerous for Coeliacs – Zero Stars if I Could
I’m absolutely appalled by my recent experience at Haven. I requested a gluten free option due to not just dietary restrictions but the consequences of my allergy. Unfortunately my dietary needs were not taken seriously.
Within hours, I became very ill — something that only happens when I’ve been glutened. Either there was cross-contamination in the kitchen, or worse, they served me food that wasn't actually gluten free. In either case, it’s unforgivable.
Coeliac disease is not a trend or a preference; it’s an autoimmune disorder that requires strict adherence to a gluten-free diet. One slip-up can lead to days or weeks of recovery.
If you have coeliac disease or any serious gluten intolerance, I strongly advise you to avoid this place. They’re playing roulette with people’s health, and I wouldn’t trust them with mine again.
Use caution, and consider dining elsewhere where food safety and dietary restrictions are respected and understood.
Great service and amazing food. Stopped on our way back to nelsom hoping to get a gluten free pie. I had one of them on my last visit and i have to say that in the 20 years that i have been GF, that this was hands down the best Gluten Free pie I have ever had. Sadly they didn't have any so had a GF banoffee slice. Tasted amazing. Hopefully they make those GF pies again in the future as its worth the drive from Nelson.
A lovely lady on the street directed us to this gem of a coffee shop.
Lots of gluten free options, great coffee and a nice quiet atmosphere. Kid friendly :)
Your typical corner fish n chips shop. They do gluten free but didn't use a separate fryer (which they told me at till). Nice food - good size pieces of fish
My husband and I dined here on 14/11/2019. We had Grilled Mussells, which were amazing. I am Coeliac, so therefore gluten free. I was informed they had a separate fryer for the chips I ordered and assured me the sauce was gluten free. The staff could not have been more accommodating and considerate of my requests. The staff were extremely friendly and welcoming. Highly recommend a stop here if you are on the way to Nelson or spending some time in this friendly town. Thank you for a enjoyable meal.
Had a fantastic lunch. The setting in the garden was lovely, the food was all fantastic, including a good range of veggie and gluten free options. All the staff were very friendly and efficient. The extra glass of bubbles for it being our honeymoon was also a nice touch
Great food and beautifully cooked. Generous seafood portions and very tasty.
However: Waitress couldn’t tell us anything about the dishes when we asked. We had to rely totally on reading the menu’s descriptions.
We were keen to do a desert but after giving us a menu again, waitress never came back to take our orders. So after waiting and seeing her go by many times we got up, paid and left and then went elsewhere.
Hence a lower rating for staff who should be trained to upsell and also know what the dishes are.
This restaurant does Cater to Coeliac clients in many mains, but only one desert option. (Would be nice to see sticky rice and mango as an option. )
We went at 5 pm, so restaurant wasn’t busy.
Good for gluten free options, mainly sweet but do savoury options too. Take away and eat in! I had a cake and a wrap both very tasty and not more expensive than other options
Good spot for dinner on a Friday night. No issue fitting us in despite being busy. Nice meals and attentive staff. My wife has to be gluten free, no issue at all.
We had high expectations of this place based on the reviews as we both love this type of cuisine and eat it regularly in the UK. It's an odd restaurant - attached to the swimming pool area of a hotel and lacking much character. Busy though for a Thursday night so we were lucky to get a seat. None of the sakes on the tasting board really jumped out, and the waitress wasn't great at explaining them. We shared the pork gyozas, aubergine and tofu dish, spicy squid and salmon and avocado rolls. All of it tasted fine but none of it was memorable. The rolls were also made with super tough seaweed paper so it was really hard to bite through and they were too chewy. They have detailed gluten free menu though which is nice. At the end we were asked to tip which took us by surprise as our understanding in NZ is that you don't tip. We ended up paying something which I regret as the service was equally only fine.
Best gluten free subway wrap I’ve had to date! The lady today 4th October at 11.30am made the wrap so well and folded to perfection! So enjoyable to eat without stuff falling everywhere

I don't normally go to pubs for food but we had such a lovely time at Seumus'!
We ordered the bangers and mash and the hot pot. The bangers were okay but the mash and gravy were amazing and the hot pot... The hot pot was amazing. I will dream of that hot pot. The portions were generous and arrived very quickly. We had also ordered loaded fries and could not finish it all. We tried.
Lots of dairy free, gluten free and vege options if you need those.
Order the Bailey's slushie. That was also divine.
The place had a great friendly vibe and to top it all off, the service was amazing. Our host was so attentive and funny. When we left, he wasn't around and I feel very sad that we didn't get to say goodbye. If you're reading this, it was nice to meet you! Thanks for an awesome night. Enzo and I will be back.
Great spot!
Best coffee and such a delicious food. Bacon and egg frittata/ quiche ( gluten-free ) to die for.
Just open since a half year.
Don’t miss out!
A lovely friendly happy lady behind the counter. 10 out of 10.
Definitely I’ll come back😋

We found the Crow Tavern in Picton while travelling NZ in a motorhome using wikicamps. If you ask, the owner may allow a self-contained motorhome to use the carpark if you come in for a meal or a drink or two. We did just that. They also have a separate menu to cater for coeliac. We met George the owner and publican while ordering our meals. We had a lovely chat, and he went through the hotels history with us. The walls are adourned with historic photos and documents detailing all the known history right back to the beginnings.
The pub toilets are the cleanest toilets we've come across in NZ.
Thankyou George for your motorhome hospitality. A big two thumbs up from both of us.
Fantastic coffee - a bonus that they use Oaklands milk. Amazing selection of slices, scones and other foods. Lots of gluten free options. Ginger crunch is the best! Highly recommend
Food was excellent and reasonable priced. (Eggs Benedict perfectly cooked with a tasty sprout twist.). Staff understood about gluten intolerance and were friendly.
Brilliant!!
Had Dal Shorba(Indian Lentil Soup with a kick!!)
Chilli Paneer Indian Hot (PoS were happy to make, gluten-free and all
Great place
Great food
Great staff
Will come back if I can!!
Alan Scott was our first stop in the Marlborough wine region and the meal did not disappoint.
We started with the clams, which came in an Asian curry broth and then moved on to the soft shell crab, which was sensational. The beef was ok, but not as good as the amazing seafood options.
Plenty of well priced wines by the glass, superb desserts, and an excellent selection of options for people needing a gluten free meal.
The setting is superb, a nice sheltered courtyard inside a lovely building. Lovely bathrooms and plenty of free parking right out front.
Service was friendly, knowledgeable and excellent right up until the end when our tea and coffee disappeared.
