It made me so happy to have gluten free fried shrimp and french fries. My husband said his clams were great and the non gf blueberry cornbread was delicious.
Went to a wedding rehearsal dinner here and it couldn't have been better. The chef and owners are personable and did everything in their power to cater to the allergies of our party. Highly recommend for gluten free, the food is phenomenal and carefully crafted. Thanks so much, we look forward to visiting for a meal when we are back in Wells this summer!
Stopped in today, Christmas Eve, looking for a quick bite. I know it can stink to be working today- despite this, the girls at the counter were so bright and cheerful. They were kind and funny, and provided excellent service. They also were very knowledgeable about a gluten allergy. Besides the service, the food is excellent. So delicious and we can’t wait to come back.
Not accommodating to allergies.
I was looking forward to some delicious diner food, but ended up leaving without ordering because there is nothing on the menu that someone who suffers from both celiac disease and lactose intolerance can eat. When asked about modifying a menu item we were told it was not possible. Waitress suggested ordering a sandwich, only to learn that they were out of gluten free bread.
Leaving two stars instead of one because the waitress was nice and seemed understanding about why we left.
My girlfriend is gluten free and they were very accommodating and they split our meal on separate plates which was also incredibly nice of them. They said the get busy during the vacation season, however, this place is a hidden gem and highly recommended.
Gluten free options are very limited and not even their own donuts. The people I was with got the honey dipped donut breakfast sandwich and really liked it, good sweetness to it with thick bacon.
Best part of the whole experience was the ocean view. Worst part was the traditional New England clam chowder came out with oil all over the top and with being an industry I’ve never seen a chowder this bad with all my years . They said it’s because they don’t use gluten well someone tell them about a slurry.
Food was very good. Gluten free pizza is available, but in limited quantities. Man who answered the phone was borderline rude. He was pleasant in person though. Prices were higher than average.
I’m from foody California, so let me say this first: I have very high standards! And with me being strictly gluten free, I’m really, really bored with restaurant after restaurant on the East Coast breading and frying all its seafood!
Spoiler alert: the food here is top-notch and AMAZING!
First, a shout out to gluten-free and vegetarian folks: there is some great stuff on the menu here for you! I came here even though the menu did not specifically say what was gluten-free. We had some initial challenges with the waiter and kitchen staff communicating clearly about what was gluten-free. But once the manager came over, she pointed out so many things that were/could be gluten-free— many of which I wouldn’t have suspected. For example: gluten-free pizza, gluten-free bun for the hamburger, gf lobster bisque, corn tortillas for fish tacos…. And so on. Even the fries could be put in a gluten-free fryer, but that was not suggested for celiac folks, since the oil is filtered and reused.
We got tuna crudo, the mushroom pesto pizza, lobster bisque, and strawberry rhubarb goat cheese salad. Everything was DELICIOUS—and it was way too much food for the two of us. Drinks were good too.
We’re going back tomorrow, if that’s any indication of how thrilled we were!
Also, the atmosphere is great: they have a wheelchair accessible patio, and the fire place we sat near was great for this rainy summer day!
Great food! My parents said the fried Haddock Sandwich was the best one they ever had! Super light breading and great flavor! I would highly recommend the Haddock Chowder. All their Chowders are prepared the traditional way, without the use of thickners, so they are gluten-free.
The Rollover Cafe, located on Mile Road in Wells, is a quaint cafe near Wells Beach. Offering breakfast and lunch options, it is the perfect place to grab a few treats for a beach picnic or to enjoy on the cafe's patio. All menu items are prepared with premium ingredients and made to order. Additionally, they offer a range of grab-and-go items and gluten-free options.
I chose the Italian Combo, made with freshly sourced cold cuts and cheese imported from Italy, dressed in a nicely balanced Italian herb dressing. The sandwich was full of flavor and delicious.
The Rollover Cafe boasts an exceptionally friendly and welcoming staff. Despite its compact size, the Cafe is remarkably well-organized and maintains an outstanding level of cleanliness. Two notable features contribute to The Rollover Cafe's unique charm. Firstly, the Cafe is pet-friendly, offering treats for customers' four-legged friends to enjoy. Inside, the "Paws of Fame" wall features photographs of the numerous dogs and puppies that have visited the Cafe. Additionally, a poignant photograph of a grandmother and granddaughter making meatballs hangs on the wall. When I inquired about the image, Adreanna, one of the owners, shared the story behind it. The photograph depicts Adreanna and her Nonna teaching her the family's time-honored 97-year-old meatball recipe. As a tribute to her Nonna and family legacy, Adreanna has incorporated the traditional family meatballs into the Cafe's menu, celebrating her family's heritage. This story deeply touched my heart.
As I departed, I encountered Dave, Adreanna's husband, at a flat grill. I walked over and asked him about the preparation. He was preparing sausage and peppers for the Cafe's "After Hours" event, 3pm to 7pm during Memorial Day Weekend nights, offering light bites, beer, wine, and a welcoming atmosphere under the stars.
To enjoy a fantastic meal, outstanding service, and a feeling of being part of the family, I highly recommend stopping by the Rollover Cafe, where a memorable experience awaits you.
