Restaurant Yugo is an upscale Japanese French fusion restaurant that serves premium quality sushi as well as some less common, sophisticated offerings such as Foie Gras Donburi. I ordered some sushi for takeout from them recently. Featured here: Hamachi Nigiri Sockeye Salmon Nigiri Gluten Free Avocado Oshi Sushi Not the most exotic ingredients as Hamachi, Sockeye Salmon, and Avocado are all ingredients that you can find in pretty much any Japanese restaurant. The difference however is in how the ingredients were prepared. Restaurant elevated these ingredients to another level. Most other restaurants use more rice for their nigiri and the fish lies flat on top of the rice. I love how the salmon and hamachi draped over the rice, with some extra fish hanging over the sides of the rice. The Avocado Oshi sushi was also sublime. Confit Tomato Sauce and Lemon Zest were brilliant additions which made the flavours pop in our mouths. My picky eater who usually just loves to eat a standard Avocado roll was most delighted with this new version of Avocado sushi! Open 7 days a week for lunch and dinner which is another plus for me because at the time that I ordered from this place, I'd been struggling to find a good sushi restaurant where I could order for lunch on a Sunday! Not a bad place, but not exceptional either. We spent $80 and I was still quite hungry at the end. The green tea is really good though! The good thing is they’re able to accommodate a gluten-friendly diet with some of their menu items, and can make simple rolls at your request that aren’t on the menu (see salmon avocado roll in photos). The salmon avocado roll was really good, probably one of the best I’ve had, but it was kind of expensive for a simple roll. The snow white roll fell very short of my expectations - it was effectively lettuce wrapped in daikon and had very little flavour, even with the beet purée. The presentation was lovely, but I wouldn’t recommend this roll unless you’re just craving salad. The bluefin tuna tasted good and wasn’t too expensive compared to other sashimi. Overall, I’d say this place would be fairly good if it wasn’t for the very high prices, which in my opinion don’t reflect accurately the value of the food.
