Really nice venue for a chilled meal out. Good food and a wide range of gluten free options. Our server Katarina was fantastic, very welcoming and attentive.
Very tasty food and lots of gluten free options. Portions are not the largest, certainly not the cheapest, but worth the money. Service was very nice. Restaurant is unfriendly. The smoked BBQ burgers are particularly recommended. Fries too weak for my taste and not crispy enough, but they are only side dishes, so it's better to order one more main course.

I have been to this restaurant a couple of times with friends, it has always been a lovely experience. The staff are attentive and were understanding of allergies. At busy times I would recommend getting a reservation, but it is not always necessary. As a coeliac, they were able to provide great knowledge of coeliac disease and there was a large range of gluten free options. I had pancakes and have had one of the breakfast, both are very good and I would recommend to coeliacs! My friends, who are not coeliacs, have always enjoyed their food, and the atmosphere of the restaurant in general is lovely, and the prices are good.
We had the £10 fish and chips and it was absolutely amazing as always. I have a gluten intolerance and the batter on my fish is the best I have ever tasted. The alcohol free gin was very nice
Very good food and atmosphere, a bit overpriced but also a great location. Had quite a few vegetarian options, as well as gluten free buns and pizza bases - the gluten free pizza I had was decent quality.
We randomly chose to dining at Herbie’s because I was looking up the best gluten-free restaurants to eat in Exeter. We were visiting and I have coeliac disease. Herbie’s came up so we made a reservation went out for an early evening stroll before dinner. Just to make sure it was ok - we walked by and it was full and looked adorable. Like a cool, casual but characterful uni restaurant that actually serves healthy food. Well … we weren’t disappointed. The food and service were lovely! We had the cauliflower & balsamic drizzle starter which was delicious. For mains - nachos with their 3 bean chilli (my only complaint is trying to sell the chili as a special separately when it’s always already made for the nachos. BUT they didn’t try to hide it……. Im just questioning how it can be a special when it’s made for the nachos daily? Also had their Buddha bowl and an orange wine which is rarity. We love Herbies! Highly recommend if you’re visiting Exeter and are veggie, vegan or gluten free! Everyone working there was lovely as well.
My go-to pizza restaurant in Exeter. Lovely setting with views of the cathedral. They are brilliant at catering for gluten free (Coeliac UK accredited) and service is always great. Wendy (the manager) is fab!
Excellent French food in a great location opposite the Cathedral. Very good gluten-free menu. Service is friendly and helpful, but there can be a wait for orders to be taken at times. Depending on where you're sitting, the restaurant can get noisy.
Lovely place especially for people with gluten allergy and vegan dietary requirement. Food is delicious and the price is great. Also the venue is cosy. I recommend this wholeheartedly.
Delicious locally sourced vegan and gluten free food, the portions aren't huge but everything is very tasty. Delicious coffee, kombucha on tap and the best gluten free muffins I've ever had.
What a gem in Exeter! Authentic Thai cooked by lovely people. Love the wooden furniture and hand painted signs.
Good sized portions at reasonable prices and great gluten free options
The gluten-free cakes, steak pasty, and sausage rolls were delicious. Along with that, the staff were very friendly and accommodating especially after a misunderstanding with my order. There was a genuine personal interest shown! I highly recommend this place.

I have visited Tortilla before, but this was my first time visiting the Exeter branch. The staff were patient and helpful, and I went around 4pm on a workday and the queue was not large at all. There was a large variety of food, I had the naked burrito and it was nice. There was only one veggie option (vegan chilli), but it was delicious and I would recommend. The naked burrito is gluten free, which was very tasty, and we had no issues finding seats. We used the £5 Monday deal with the app, which worked perfectly, and all me and my friends found our £5 burritos to be great.
Quite possibly the world's most expensive garlic bread...which wasn't even that garlicky!
Almost 3 hours tells a story of how inattentive and prompt the service and food was (it wasn't like the restaurant was full either!).
If you are going to offer a Gluten Free pizza option at least make sure the base doesn't need a chainsaw to cut through it! - a bit stingy on the topping front too while we're talking pizza's!
This was going to be a 2-star review but my partner enjoyed the Monkfish starter & Panna Cotta dessert which apparently rescues a star?!
Approach with caution...
Phenomenal food. Stands up to the hype & exceeded my expectations. The people were delightful, and the food and drink pairings exquisite. Unusual food flavour blends and profiles that work incredibly well, beautifully cooked and presented. Delivered a dining experience worthy of every plaudit - and a gluten free dining experience that surpasses any other I have had.
My favourite local cafe! They have such fantastic vegan and vegetarian food, and good gluten-free options too! Friendly staff, great location and dog-friendly :)
Ordered delivery that turned up 2 hours later. Food was stone cold. No apology and the gluten free base was so rank I couldn’t eat it. First and last time ordering. What a waste of £40 !!
Absolutely wonderful food, excellent staff and amazing atmosphere. Has a good range of vegan, vegetarian, gluten free options suitable for even the most complex dietary restrictions like myself. Has great wheelchair access with a very roomy interior and excellent wc set up (no bins or other furniture placed in wheelchair transfer space). Would definitely recommend and will definitely be returning.
Sometimes, you go to an establishment and everything is just so great that you want to be able to award more than five stars. The Cheeky Vegan is one of these places.
I have wanted to go here for a while now, since before even deciding to become vegan myself. Unfortunately, I hadn't realised previously that it had closed down. Lucky for me, The Cheeky Vegan opened under new ownership in March this year. Finally, at the weekend I had a chance to visit. It was well worth the wait.
Immediately, there is a lovely welcoming atmosphere, with plenty of outdoor seating to sit and enjoy the sunshine and the views of the cathedral green, I love to sit and eat al fresco so this was a huge tick in the first box. There is indoor seating as well, for those that would rather not be outside, with lovely decor and a friendly but not overpowering atmosphere (you are not immediately assaulted by very loud music and can have a nice conversation with your dining partner). We chose a table outside and were greeted by a member of staff who offered us both menus. This was where my dilemma started... there were a number of amazing sounding options as well as specials on the board, I didn't know what to choose! I asked my partner to go to the counter and order and instructed her to ask which out of the chick*n burger or the new yorker hotdog I should get. We were recommended the hot dog. I can see why!
As we had been cycling and very active that morning, I was feeling especially hungry, so I decided I would probably have room for a side of fries and a milkshake as well. I am so glad I was so hungry. Soon after ordering, our drinks came out to us. I was apologised to as there was an issue with the whipped cream, so there was no whipped cream topping on my biscoff milkshake, I didn't mind at all and they kindly put extra biscoff topping on there anyway to make it up. It was divine. To be able to enjoy a really good, well made milkshake again was absolute heaven, even before I stopped dairy altogether, I had real sensitivies to milk so was unable to enjoy shakes. My partner enjoyed a peach iced tea, which really hit the spot.
Not long after our drinks were served, a staff member came out with the food. It looked superb, I had the new yorker hot dog, which is served with crispy onions, yellow mustard and ketchup, absolute classic and a side of fries, which were crispy on the outside, fluffy on the inside and clearly freshly cooked. My partner ordered the veggie burger, which she ordered with a gluten free bun and also a side of fries. There are options to add things to the burger, but she wanted to keep it classic and enjoy the flavour of the burger itself. One bite and she was clearly in heaven.
We were even given an extra portion of fries as a thank you for eating there, we were pretty full but still managed to wolf these down too!
In addition to the great location and delicious food, the staff are absolutely wonderful! Welcoming, friendly and warm, I really would love to be able to give them an extra star for just being fantastic people. Thank you so much all of you!
All in all and absolutely perfect experience and we will definitely be coming back again and again, I still need to try that ch*cken burger!
Vegan or not, I would recommend this place to anyone. It is a fantastic addition to the plant based offering in the city of Exeter.
Visited today for Gluten free chips to be told they haven’t offered them for a “couple of years now” despite the (knackered looking) 3 foot high sign out side saying “we serve Gluten Free fish & chips every Monday”. Disappointed and a bit puzzled.
Great food and the service was brilliant too. Viking was really helpful with recommendations for a friend who is gluten free. Thanks! Will definitely do Taco Tuesday again :)
The baked good are unreal! Especially the cinnamon rolls and doughnuts. Lots of gluten free cakes too. Sandwiches look delicious (though I haven’t personally tried). Everyone is so friendly and up for a chat. Dogs are welcome and drinks are lovely - what’s not to like! Just make sure you get there early if you want your pick of baked goods :) Perfect stop on a quay walk or for a catch up with friends.
Nipped in to grab a coffee and maybe some breakfast and being Celiac they made it perfectly in just a few minutes with no difficulty super service great ethos great people made my morning whole …
went to get 4 baguettes and they took the order for all 4 started making them and when they had finished making 3 turn round and said they had no gluten free bread wanted to walk but didn't have much choice as they had made them but upset as my sons girlfriend had to go with out wont get caught out next time will order hers first
Our favourite place in Exeter for Gluten Free food!! Service was amazing (served by Oscar) and they were so helpful with our requests. Food is amazing!!
Lovely meal out tried the thighs with my favourite lemon and hurb with the garlic bread very nice
Really liked that the manager took the order as a member of the party was gluten free who also really enjoyed there meal
Very accommodating with gluten free meals and went to check with the chef to make sure. Service was lovely and the food was the best carbonara that I have ever eaten!
I have eaten here on several occasions and always had a good meal, its not cheap, but I am always able to get gluten free options here to eat and usually have a gf beer as well.
Great food, atmosphere and table service. The portions are generous and the prices are good. One thing I am a big fan of is that you get an actual bottle of mayo/ketchup not a teeny pot or sachets - no rationing here! The cafe is comfortable and is accessible for wheelchair which is always a plus. Gluten free options available and the staff were clued up on allergies. Absolutely no complaints at all, it was a lovely experience.
