Don’t sleep on this place. One of the best breakfasts in Maui. Super chill atmosphere and the server was amazing. If you are looking for a gluten free and celiac safe spot, this is the place.
It's hard to write a review leaving only 4 stars for a place that is so beloved by many (as evidenced by the need to book reservations months in advance), but sometimes the hype really hurts a place like Mama's.
We skipped the reservations and opted to walk-in for bar seating at lunch. Credit has to go to Mama's for the ambience and service. It was quite excellent. The staff and location were top notch, really capturing that retro "island" vibe. Bar staff, Tom and Jill were great.
Drinks: Mai Tai and Espresso Martini were great. Would recommend to anyone.
Food: overall my impression was that the food was good, but nothing was special. At nearly 70 dollars an entree, you are looking for that something extra. The seared ahi appetizer was good but unremarkable. The stuffed Kanpachi, a long standing menu item, was somewhat of a disappointment. However the our selection of the fresh catch (got the uku with caramelized onions, chili and avocado) was a bright spot and was quite good.
Would also like to note that they were very accommodating of gluten-free diners.
Verdict: 4/5. Go for the ambience, +/- on the food.

Stayed in Paia and was able to walk to Mana Food Mart. Was shocked at how low their prices were. And they have the biggest selections. This was a huge deal for me since I am on a gluten free diet.
(the line is worth it!) Very very good food, I got the blackened Mahi Mahi plate. The rice, potatoes, and coleslaw went well with the fish!! The fries weren’t the best, just kinda standard, so I def recommend getting the rice and potatoes instead. Basically everything on the menu that isn’t fried or in a sandwich is celiac-friendly. My fiancé with celiac got the chicken plate with rice and potatoes and he didn’t have any cross-contamination sickness afterwards! Yay
The food here was quite good. The squash curry I had was creamy and complex. My companion said the pulled pork crepe with goat cheese with excellent. It was also gluten-free which was a bonus. This was a stop on the way to the airport and time was tight. The service seemed a little slow but probably would not have been an issue if there were not time constraints. As it was when the food arrived to go boxes needed to be immediately requested. The food was eaten at the airport but the quality did not seem to suffer.
Absolutely amazing poke bowls!! Both gluten free and regular options were phenomenal. At first, I was sad to see the bed of lettuce (don’t be fooled). I had a bite, then another, followed by another. I was so concerned with my kids wanting another bite (they’re not big fish eaters - and of course they loved it!). So I devoured that plate like it was my last meal. Will definitely be coming back. Coffee and ice cream were great as well. Kids approved! Picture of the Hawaiian poke plate (gluten free).
Got Gelato twice while exploring the north shore. They are open late, have plenty of gluten free options, and are delicious. They have some really interesting flavors which were fun to explore.
Looks like they had a lot of gluten free lunch options too for their to go boxes. That would have been fun to bring up on the road to Hana or to the beach.
Def recommend!
We grabbed a picnic lunch here during our Road to Hana trip. They offer gluten free options which was a plus for this Celiac. Staff, service, and food were all amazing! Highly recommend!!
Have been there two times now and still want to come back. Loco Moco and Maui Bano is highly recommended. Good support on gluten free alternatives. Best fries ever tasted ❤️You want to go there 🙌🏻
Good food, Vegan, gluten-free options. It is off the Hana Highway on a short road to the left on the way to Paia from Kahalui It is open when an "Open" flag is flying just past a curve. The food truck is not visible from the highway.
Stopped by on a Sunday afternoon. They were very busy but Lindsay the bartender and Jimmy the host were amazing.
The food was excellent and they were able to accommodate a gluten free dairy free diet.
The drinks were pretty strong and delicious.
Been coming to Mambo for years now on pretty much all of our Maui trips and just love it. The food is consistently great, fresh and tasty. Great for breakfast and lunches. Love the open windows and breezy vibes as you lazily sit along the main Street of Baldwin while watching the mix of locals and tourists go by in the quaint surfer town of Paia. Lots of gluten free and healthy options. Staff is warm, yet chill in a lovely way. Hit this spot while shopping here.
We had two different acai bowls and a gluten free cupcake. All were amazing! The natural food store and hot food bar also looked great. Very large for the small town of Paia. Lots of vegetarian, vegan and gluten free options. But also high quality meats.
My partner who has a gluten sensitivity ordered the gluten free avocado toast (for which she was charged) to go because we got it then went to Haleakala and when we sat down to eat the food we discovered it was on sourdough bread which we could not see under the heaps of sprouts when we checked it at the restaurant before heading up to the park

Owner responded which we really do appreciate - we do not want a refund; we get how hard times are nowadays and we will not ask for money back when goods were rendered but want to make sure that this kind of vigilance when serving is maintained which definitely sounds like it will be so good on them for that; do sincerely appreciate the effort. Thankfully the allergy isn't concerning only very inconvenient.
