Got the tofu banh mi, which was a first for me, only place I've found that does them gluten free. It was really, really good and everyone was super friendly. Food came out quickly, and the coffee was great.

The food is really good, and they're very good with dietary restrictions such as gluten. I consider this place celiac-safe.

Okay Chinese restaurant with Thai food offerings in downtown Highland Park. Good variety of options including gluten free dishes, but quality is only average for a North suburban Chinese restaurant. The chicken in the sweet and sour chicken dish was dry, pad Thai was sparse on egg and veggies (spouse not happy with the chicken in that dish), and the rice was a little dry/old, but my black bean chicken was fine. My son ordered Kung pao chicken and got fish instead, which was weird. I asked our waiter, who assured us it was chicken, but we're not idiots--i'm Chinese and I've eaten fish my whole life. Chicken meat is not bright white and flaky! Dining here is probably fine if you don't have any hang ups about your Chinese food being really authentic. Prices were good for the volume of food and our server was pleasant. He basically gave my family egg drop soup for free. It'll do the job if you just want to fill up.

I absolutely LOVED the vegan gluten-free baked goods my partner got for us from The Chunky Scones - so delicious, excellent texture & mouth feel, and easy to digest! Recently, we went while Simbiótico Coffee was there, and the oat milk latte was incredible. After stepping inside for the first time, I was impressed by how good everything smelled and the wide variety of food & goodies on display. The storefront is small, but cozy and efficient. The location is very convenient, on St. Johns Ave. just north of Roger Williams Ave., directly across from the "Ravinia Train Station North" parking lot. If it's not too busy, you can park in the metered lot for free (read the signs for restrictions). There's free street parking around the area, as well. It's a small location, but apparently they're really efficient so there's rarely a line. There are also a lot of cool shops and the nearby park is really nice (they occasionally have food trucks there in the summer), so it's worth a walkthrough. There are a few outdoor seats, and the park is very close, so I can walk my dog while my partner runs in for baked goodies. Everyone at The Chunky Scones is so friendly! I love the mega-chill vibe they have, and I'm so happy to see they're fans of lucha libre freestyle wrestling (they've even co-sponsored a vegan market with lucha libre performances featuring GALLI stars like Lince Dorado, Bandolero, Aramís, El Torero, Sexy Star II, Shazza McKenzie, Victor "El Sueño" Iniestra, and more). I look forward to my partner - who loves this place - bringing home more goodies from The Chunky Scone. If I'm in the area, I might also pop in occasionally for a treat. They like our dog, which is also cool!

We had a really good conference business lunch at Ordo Restaurant. The restaurant serves halal food with gluten free as well as vegetarian dishes. that is both traditional and authentic. Our entrees were tasty and prepared with the amount of heat we requested. The dining area is spotless and tastefully decorated, providing for nice ambiance. The service was both attentive and friendly. Their vegetarian dish Oromo is the best! We'll definitely return. Recommended soups: mushroom soup Recommended salads: eggplant salad and beet salad Recommended appetizers: Brussels sprouts and samsy Recommended main course: beef plov and manty Meat and fish: branzino and white fish and all of their kebabs Recommended desserts : napoleon and pistachio raspberry
