Nearly everything on the menu — including the chips — is gluten-free! Their new printed menu doesn’t show GF menu items though, strangely. The waiters were confused that nothing was labeled and had to go back to consult with the old menu. Great atmosphere and friendly staff.
If I could give the service zero stars, I would. I ordered through DoorDash and did not receive part of my order, which was for a coworker - a gluten free pizza (the only thing she can eat). We contacted DoorDash and they asked us to call Mellow Mushroom. I spoke to a manager who went back and forth with me regarding getting MY money back. He was rude and impatient, when at that point all I wanted was my money back for something I did not get. Maybe the Dasher kept the other pizza, but it would have made the experience better to talk to a nicer manager. I will not be returning to this location.
Loved this place! My husband and i went on valentines day and it was super busy, but they took the time to chat with us and remade our order when we accidentally ordered the wrong thing. I also had the gluten free pizza and it was actually really good. Highly recommend!! Great food, even greater service.
I really loved the fact that the menu had plenty of vegan and gluten free options. I would recommend the black pepper tofu and broccoli. Cozy, lively atmosphere and our waitress was such a sweetheart. Would definitely eat here again.

We had The Local cater our wedding and it was an amazing experience! We had tons of options and everything was customizable. The biscuit bar immediately sold us too! Our dinner was a plated meal and it was similar to restaurant style set up and serving. We were able to have children’s meals as well as vegetarian, vegan, and gluten free plates for guests! No one went hungry or thirsty! The staff was enjoyable and floated through the venue like pros making sure everything was managed and everyone was happy. They 100% contributed to the smoothness of the evening. My glass was always full and I was met with politeness and hospitality. During the planning phase we even were invited to the restaurant for a meal and were shown great hospitality then too. I would definitely recommended this location to anyone looking for a GREAT meal and GREAT service.
Had a wonderful experience here. HUGE selection of beer from all over the Americas. They even have GLUTEN FREE BEER! The best two brands IMO. Had dinner and many laughs.
They were able to accommodate our party of 8 on a Friday night without a reservation, and everyone found something on the menu that they liked including two vegetarians and one gluten-free eater. Service was prompt and accurate.
The tacos at this place were outstanding. We loved the outdoor patio where our dog could hang out with us. We were really happy that the staff totally understood the need for gluten-free food by customers with celiac disease. Friendly service too.
Excellent restaurant! They are extremely mindful when you tell them you have celiacs. Best place I have ever been as far as allergies. Kaleen was our waitress and she is awesome! Thank you.
Very nice atmosphere for a comfortable dinner with my two children and husband. Food was fresh, good quality, and well seasoned. The staff was very friendly, and it’s a really nice refuge from the downtown Charlottesville.
Hummus was re absolutely delicious, and so is the falafel.

Love this place! I come every time that I’m in Charlottesville. You won’t feel like you’re eating alone. The staff is super! They’re attentive and charming. I had the birria tacos (big enough to share) and a mango mojito. Delicious!! Lots of gluten free options. Highly recommended!!
I am familiar with BJ's from having spent a year in El Paso. We loved that restaurant-- first went when I had a friend visiting who has celiac disease, and they had several gluten-free options (including a GF pizookie, which is TO DIE FOR). This was my first visit to the Charlottesville restaurant, with the same GF friend, and perhaps it was just the staff working there today, but they were not very knowledgeable about the GF options, and more importantly did not verify answers, even after it was made clear that my friend has a legit allergy, not just "sensitivity." So her fish tacos came out in regular flour tortillas, which my friend realized after a couple bites. Good things: the manager made it right and didn't charge for the entree, after we inquired and heavily suggested that move; they still have an outstanding beer selection; the rest of the food was good (gigantic ahi tuna salad pictured); and the pizookies are still OFF. THE. CHAIN.
5/5 for the food. 2/5 ambiance, but that goes to a 4/5 graded for a college town. Food was good. Got the chorizo con queso and brisket nachos for appetizers. Got grilled fish tacos on corn tortillas (best gluten free ‘gf’ option) - all the food was great. Could not get appetizer plates, silverware or drinks in any way. Servers were not really engaged. It wasn’t that busy. Will go back for food, but my expectations have been managed down to apathetic. Could be truly great based on menu and location.
Delicious hot, sizzling, fresh burgers and breakfast. We ordered sausage and gravy with eggs. Also got a gus burger no bun (gluten free gf) that was perfect. At 830 am on a school day - Monday - place was empty and got super fast service. Friendly as always.
This is by far one of my favorite places to eat. It's been a few years since I've been as I live about 2 hrs. away and this was by far my best visit! Elijah waited on us and offered some of the best customer service ever! He was very friendly and honestly seemed to love his job. The sandwiches are delicious, as well and they offer gluten-free bread also!
What an experience!! The 1st thing we told our waitress was my wife has celiac disease and the Alpha Gal allergy and she had no clue as to what either were. So we explained it to her and ordered from the gluten free options. We ordered the gluten free wings and the waitress asked bone in or out? We replied so are both gluten free to which she replied yes. After eating just a few it was very obvious they were not gluten free. We flagged her down and asked did you be sure to put in the order gluten free wings because she is in terrible pain. Her reply was I think so!! So she goes to the kitchen comes back as says no those are regular not gluten free. She went back to get the manager and it only got worse from there. The manager listened to our side and replied well it has breading so you should have known it would contain gluten!! She was the most uneducated person about allergies to be in a managerial position at a restaurant I've ever come across. Very rude and short with us. We explained that the waitress said yes we have gluten free in both bone in and bone out and she said oh well she is wrong. No care or compassion at all for the pain they put my wife through. It's too late when your ignorance kills someone, please get the training needed to prevent anyone else from experiencing this. We paid our bill and left. I did call corporate to make them aware as well and they were extremely disappointed in how this was handled. They were really upset that no discount was offered and I said we did t expect or want that we just wanted to make them aware of what they caused and how the lack of concern we received from the manager insured we will never return to this restaurant.
