Not the best experience. Our waitress gave us indifferent answers about how the gluten free food is prepared. We ended up having to talk to the manager (which is something I hate asking for). The food ended up being okay and I didn’t have any reaction. It was nice to have gluten free mac and cheese! I think our experience would’ve been much better if we had a more educated waitress

My partner (celiac) and I went to this location last weekend. Everytime we eat out, we tell the waiters of my partners celiac and 2 weeks of pain to help paint the picture and ask for the gf menu. Luckily, their menu was already marked so our waitress said those should be safe for celiacs (though I now see others here that said their waiters said it was not safe), there is not a dedicated gf fryer, and that they’d let the staff know. Even though they said that, the way they said it came off like they didn’t super care, so we’re unsure if the staff actually does have these safety discussions. Which sounds like they don’t take cross contamination seriously, since my partner did get sick. Which is quite a bummer since we really enjoyed the food and the vibes of the place. We were going to definitely become repeat customers if it was safe, since it is in our area, but we will not be returning.
For just a food-based review, there are a good amount of options labeled gf where you can have a good, quick meal. The sushi itself is not the fanciest, but it curves the cravings and it’s right for the price point (~$10-$20 per roll). We loved the taste of the one pink (highly recommended) signature roll. We ordered 4 rolls total for 2 people. Again, take that all with a grain of salt since it’s not actually gf safe.
Great place for my lunch break. The lunch specials are so so good, really well priced & fast. Love the soup too, and it's ready so quickly. (For gluten free they will give you rice or tortilla for the bread, and they have a lot of other gf options on the menu..)
Food was great. I love that they are able to make most items gluten free! It’s so hard to find Asian food with a lot of GF options here. The people I was with (who are not GF) also enjoyed their food!
A fantastic ambiance with EXCELLENT sushi! I am a big Sashimi person, but I decided to get some rolls instead this visit and I was very pleased! We loved the music, staff, overall vibe, and the accommodations for my gluten allergy. I highly recommend getting on the wait-list, or making a reservation before enjoy a delightful meal!
A nice place to have breakfast. The waiter was friendly and welcoming. The place did seem understaffed. There was only one waiter who was helping multiple people inside and out as well as seating them. However he was very good at getting orders in and getting food out to you. I hope he gets some extra help in the future. The food was great. They have gluten free bread and pancakes which was very nice to see.
Amazing time spent at Pancake Cafe. We sat outside and soaked in the sun accompanied with aperol spritzes and cappuccinos. I was transcended back to mornings in Italy. Our server, Angie, was attentive and pleasant beyond belief. Both the regular and gluten free pancakes were delicious and fresh. Honestly the best gluten free pancakes I've had. We cannot wait to come back again!!
Menu clearly indicates gluten free items. Server was kind and was able to indicate order was for celiac. Went there was they were having a special on the marg flight.
Outdoor seating was plentiful, good energy on the patio
A true Chi-town neighborhood gem made special by the super friendly staff and cozy (tiny!) atmosphere. Food is very good too. Brilliant vegetables (so hard to find in chicago), basque inspired tapas and unique entrees with a seasonal menu. Charred broccoli was amazing. Parsnips were very good, as were boquerones. Special of the day was a perfectly grilled branzino with tortillas and a lovely pureed red pepper salsa. Wines were okay, but limited by glass (more interesting options by bottle). Dessert was limited to just one option: a basque cake very rich in both dairy and gluten, leaving no dessert option for folks with two common allergens (it sounded great though). And also slightly disappointing, they only have full strength espresso, no decaf coffee of any sort (though they are certainly not the only local restaurant to forego decaf). Overall, mfk. is a winner. Solid 4.5 ⭐️ if I could give it that. Sit at the bar. Order to share. Expect a great time.
If you're a burger enthusiast, DMK Burger Bar in Lakeview is a must-try! With a wide array of options, including gluten-free items, they cater to a variety of dietary needs—a major plus! Their 100% grass-fed beef, bison, and turkey burgers served on artisanal buns are not only delicious but made with quality ingredients. And I could tell! *chefs kiss*
They were featured on the Food Network and recognized as one of Chicago's most iconic burger spots, and now I see why they are a top spot when it comes to the burger scene.
**What We Tried:**
Golden Gate Spritz & Blood Orange Loco: These were just okay/average cocktails IMO.
Backyard BBQ Burger: My dad said it was juicy and flavorful.
-BYOB (Build Your Own Burger): I customized mine (beef/cheese/egg/bacon/lettuce/tomato/chipotle sauce on the side) and really enjoyed it. Presentation was nice as well.
Parmesan Fries with Truffle Cream: A fav! Crispy and fresh. No fry was left behind!
Sweet Potato Fries with Lemon Tabasco Aioli: Pretty good, but have had better. I usually like them a bit crisper.
Crispy Brussels Sprouts: Really good! The parmesan, bacon, and maple honey glaze combo was perfection.
Milkshakes Cookies N Cream & Banana Chocolate): creamy/thick which was delightful because I hate “watery” shakes. Really good wrap up to the meal.
For those that like activities, DMK Burger Bar offers fun extras like trivia nights, happy hour, and even Bachelor Nation watch parties. Football game-day specials are also available for sports fans.
Overall, the food was solid, and the variety makes it worth a return trip! 🌟
This place is really good! We had a great dinner and never felt rushed. The food is delicious though it is pricey. The drinks are also great, and have a very herby theme (rosemary cocktails, artichoke negroni, etc). They have gluten free pasta, and gluten free meatballs.
My husband and I love everything from here. They're also so accommodating to swap regular noodles for gluten free noodles and use gluten free soy sauce. It's our go to for comfort asian food.
Went here for our ma’s birthday while visiting Chicago for a show at Wrigley Field and it was fantastic! She has celiac disease and they can make any of their pastas Gluten Free which was awesome. We’ve been to some nicer Italian places but this was some of my favorite. Highly recommend!
Love the atmosphere here! Very cozy and intimate, with some nice outdoor tables in the summer. Great wine selection, good food options, including many vegetarian/pescatarian/gluten-free choices. I thought the sole fish was amazing and I enjoyed the Malbec wine, which pairs well with any dish. The service is also great! Very nice staff and usually pretty quick service. Also, you can bring your dog if seated outside. I highly recommend if you were interested in trying Turkish or Mediterranean food!
I ordered Chicken tikka wrap with garbanzos and cucumber with mild sauce. This was seasoned well. And the wrap was flaky and warm 10/10. I also got a Mango smoothie which dairy, gluten and nut free. It was sweet and creamy. I’ll be going back
We had a fun date night here, food was so tasty. We enjoyed everything, ribs were especially enjoyable. Thanks so much Ivan for taking my allergy so seriously and going above and beyond! The gluten free bun is actually really good too
Great step up from a diner. Love the food, service and speed. The ingredients are fresh, and labeled well. If you want to eat gluten free, vegetarian or any choice you want or need, it's easy. The chorizo hash is perfect, crunchy potatoes, perfect eggs and guac make this my go-to. The fresh fruit and granola is my other favorite. The coffee is fantastic, not diner coffee. They brew it fresh and it's perfect.
Service is fast and efficient without being pushy. If there's a wait they take your number and text you when ready. Simple things, but everything done well. In a pinch the counter is a great place to grab a meal too.
gluten free options and marked on menu! i had the gluten free kimchi fried rice with beef and fell in love! this will definitely become one of my regular places to find great gluten free food!
