Catered Beans and Barley for a post-wedding family picnic in the park! The process was seamless and we had so many great options to choose from. When we ordered, Jennifer made sure that we had enough food for 100 people and met dietary restrictions (nut-free, some vegetarian, some gluten-free). The day of, the team set everything up - including heated pans - all we needed to do was bring plates! Everyone complimented the spread - the turkey chutney sandwiches and the hummus on the veggies were guest favorites. And the pear coffee cake! Everything was clearly labelled and clean up was a breeze. Could not have been easier or more delicious - would order again!

Just had the worst experience here which is crazy because it was a spot I usually frequent due to them have gluten free items (I have celiacs). There were just a lot of micro issues that added up. First I walked in by myself and was told I could sit anywhere and I chose a booth. Waitress walked up, never greeted me and sat everything (water, menus, silverware) on the opposite side of the table from where I was sitting, okay that's fine, not too worried just moved it closer to me, then just walked away without greeting or really even asking if she could get me anything else. Not a word.
Okay fine I get bad days. I then sat for 15 minutes before I had to eventually ask another waitress to take my order. I was very kind, smiley and tactful the entire time so I'm just really confused, She literally rolled her eyes and said okay, so I proceeded to order and I warned her I had celiacs and just wanted to make sure if she could let the kitchen know it's for a gluten allergy and to make sure the bread it gluten free (again being very kind). She acted like I told her to bite my toenails off?? I then get my order 20 minutes later and it's super cold and not to mention I found not one, not two, not even three but four strands of hair all over my plate. AND it was NOT gluten free bread! | was starving and unfortunately didn't notice till I took a bite and looked (plus when I had my gluten symptoms the next day from it). This is my second time getting glutened by them, my fault for thinking it would be different this time. Not to mention, all the servers were standing around talking the entire time and nobody came to check on me or anything at all. The menu revamp is different and they took off a few items that I loved.
So I don't know. I just took the check and left. It was just the poorest service i've ever experienced since being in Milwaukee, I will not be coming here again. *NOT CELIAC OR GLUTEN SENSITIVE SAFE* I don't normally write bad reviews but I need to come on here for my fellow celiacs and gluten sensitively/allergen people.
Ian’s used to have GREAT gluten free pizza, but I just got one tonight and they must have changed crust suppliers because it was awful. It was so tough and like cardboard to chew. Also, it seemed like the toppings were just thrown on and barely baked (I ordered pineapple, and it was basically raw, obviously had not been cooked at all). I’m so disappointed, I used to love this place!
Wow! Went to Maharaja with my family for Father’s Day and was completely blown away. There are a couple allergies in my family, and the staff here went so above and beyond with Gluten Free and Dairy Free accommodations. I had the Chicken Tikka Masala with two different types of fresh bread. 10/10, some of my favorite Indian food I’ve had. The service was outstanding as well. It is clear that they take great pride in this place and truly care for the customer experience. I will be back many more times. Thanks!
Delicious, lots of gluten free options, feels like you're getting a fresh home cooked meal made with love and care. Worth the wait! My only recommendation is to put more sauce or at least have some extra easily available. I went up to the counter to ask for more sauce since my wrap was a bit dry but the staff was very busy.
Plenty of tables, great location to meet up with friends as there is a variety of food vendors to choose from in the shared space.
Our meal at The Diplomat was absolutely phenomenal from the first bite. Definitely James Beard worthy.
I ate:
Onion Salad - a bit on the small side but refreshing and herby
Grits - these were velvety, rich and absolutely sublime!
Knife & Fork Chicken + sides - what else can I say - I would eat this 1x/week if I lived in Milwaukee. Every side was to die for - especially the beans. The chicken was moist, savory, crispy - everything you want chicken to be.
Dessert was peanut butter pie which was comforting and delicious.
PS - they were so kind to my mom who has celiacs! Staff made sure she was safe and she ate as well as I did!
Food was decent, black beans was more like a porridge. Service was polite and attentive. This location has both indoor and outdoor eating. They had some local beers on tap along with some Mexican favorites. Menu had vegan options available as well as gluten free options. They do offer daily drink specials as well as specials if you get three tacos.
This small plate restaurant offered a really rare combination if flavors and original pairings.
Drinks 4/5: wide variety of tripe of drinks. Prices were the usual.
We ordered two vermouths, both delicious.
The Blue Velvet drink does not own up to its name. It’s flavor is not soft nor smooth but rather citric.(I’m being generous with this description, trust me🥴)
Portions 4/5: for a small plate place were good, but for the price they’re a little bit over.
Ex. the gluten free “bread” has only 2 pieces cut in half.
Taste: bread for our plates were a bit burnt and not the best flavor.
Service 4/5: two people for a full restaurant is not much but they did a good job of taking care of us.
HOWEVER, food took a LOT of time. Almost an hour for 2 dips with bread.
Ambience: good outdoor seating not as noisy as you would think for the location.
Inside siting is limited. A hipster multicultural melting pot, but definitely a casual place.
This became my favorite sushi place since they opened. Great food. Awesome roll is my favorite for gluten free. Love the Thai soup and Tekkah Don as well. It can get busy so plan accordingly. We get carryout as well.
I'd seen the space being prepared to open for months, and stopped in on a whim today because they looked to be open! The atmosphere of the diner is very bright and welcoming, and the staff were friendly and helpful. They have a mobile order/pay system that was super convenient, so I got to order at my pace without having to wait for someone to take my order. I got The Classic breakfast and a pumpkin pie smoothie, and everything was delicious! I have Celiac, and was assured the kitchen would use fresh pans/utensils for me, and the GF bread they had was delicious.
Great food! Nice to sit outside, always make reservations and nice to be seated right away, staff are very nice at front desk and dining! They are able to make dairy free gluten free options which is amazing!!
