My partner is coeliac and not one, but TWO staff members mistakenly gave him a gluten-containing product. First the staff member on the bar when he ordered, my partner checked everything he'd ordered was safe, which the staff member assured him that he was. Secondly the server who delivered the oreo milkshake assured us that the biscuits on it were gluten free. It was only when I questioned the server repeatedly and asked her to double check the allergen list that the gluten was identified. Thankfully my partner didn't eat any. But he could have been seriously ill, and if someone with an anaphylactic allergy had experienced this then they could have died. Normally the Lounges are our #1 restaurant when eating out due to their diligence with coeliac dietary requirements. Unfortunately this has led us to put a lot of trust in the servers, and my partner was about to eat his milkshake before I questioned the server as his level of trust in the Lounges is high enough that he was willing to take her at her word.
We will continue to eat at the Lounges chain as they have been brilliant every other time we've eaten at one of them. However it would be good if Portico Lounge could confirm that ALL staff at Portico Lounge will be required to undergo allergy refresher training, and that junior staff will be supervised by managers with more in depth allergy training.
This charming cafe features a sun-drenched outdoor seating area and cosy, beautifully decorated interiors, creating a welcoming atmosphere ideal for those seeking gluten-free dining. The staff are knowledgeable about coeliac disease, ensuring a wide variety of gluten-free options in a dog-friendly setting.

We chose this place because it looked like they had an amazing gluten free menu. The food was okay, nothing special, and I thought I could have made better food at home. We had to ask to be moved because the table behind us were cackling and shrieking. I couldn’t even hear my husband. We were moved to the opposite side of the restaurant next to another loud group. In truth, there are too many tables in the restaurant for the amount of space—it felt like we were scrunched together like sardines, and we could hear every word from the conversation of the table next to us. The server never came to check if we wanted more drinks or if the food was okay. When we asked for the cheque, we waited ages for someone to come take the payment, and in the end, my husband got up to find someone to take the payment because they were just standing around talking to each other and not paying attention. When he went to add the tip (because we felt that we needed to leave something even if it wasn’t a great experience), the card machine only had set percentages, so he was forced to leave a 20% tip. Such a shame because the menu online made it seem so much better than it was in reality. We won’t be dining here again.

Great food, loved being able to order just one egg and 1 bacon (it was a good thick piece and very tasty) and my husband had a great cooked breakfast.
The down side was the coffee which was watery and bitter, wish I'd opted for a pot of tea as I could not drink it. It did not spoil the meal though, and I bought a slice of gluten free walnut and coffee cake to take away which proved to be delicious and a beautiful texture.
This cafe's airy, beautiful interior and cozy vibe create a welcoming atmosphere ideal for relaxing or working. Staff are diligent about allergies, offering a clear allergy menu and delicious gluten-free options, making it a top choice for gluten-free visitors.

First time visiting for food, and I couldn't be more impressed... as a coeliac you never know what the quality of things like the bread will be and for me it can really elevate the offering .. it can be ok, good or fantastic... Well ...Bean and Bread get my top marks for the best gluten free bread I've had yet. Lovely local eggs too with the salmon and poached eggs on toast it was so delicious as was the americano, such good rich coffee.... thank you 😋. I'll be back next time I'm in town !!!

I booked a table here for a family group meeting for 5 people. We all travelled about 1 hour to get here from our respective homes. What a gem of a find! A small pub in the town centre, it really stood out from outside the building as bright, clean and well presented. We weren't disappointed inside either.
We were welcomed as we came through the door, and the hospitality continued throughout our visit. The team at front of house were warm and friendly, the kitchen staff turned out some lovely home cooked food too.
On the menu, there weren't too many choices. This is a good thing as it was a well chosen menu. There was something for everyone in our party, including one gluten intolerant person and one dairy-free. There are labels on the menu for persons with dietary restrictions, and all you have to do is ask the staff if you have a query. There were some really tasty choices on the menu, and all meals coming out of the kitchen were well presented. There were also smaller meal size options on the menu. That leaves room for a desert...well worth doing here. The dairy free member of our party declared the Chocolate Orange Brownie with plant-based ice cream as 'the best pudding she'd had in a very long time'.
As I said previously, what a find! This is a pub we will definitely return to again when we meet up. Tip! - book a table. We saw quite a few people having to find somewhere else to eat.
