A must-stop in Kansas City, Slap's BBQ is aptly named—this place truly "slaps"! The best part for me is that it's Gluten Free! Having tried BBQ in the South and East, I can confidently say Slap's has earned its reputation. The meat is incredibly tender, well-seasoned, and packed with flavor. Portions are huge, and the sides are shareable, featuring the tastiest sweet potato fries and coleslaw I've had. Seriously, everything here hit the mark and then some.
The burnt ends were perfectly crispy yet tender, while the chicken leg quarter and beef cuts offered a delightful, naturally smoky flavor. The sausage was incredibly flavorful, and while a touch salty for my personal taste, it was beautifully balanced by the sweet potato fries and creamy coleslaw. Don't miss the sauce station, where you'll find both spicy and sweet BBQ options. They perfectly complement the meats without overwhelming their natural flavors, offering a delightful blend of sweet, smoky, and just the right amount of red chili spice.
Plus, there are plenty of lids and boxes for your inevitable leftovers! My only minor gripe was that the picnic tables weren't cleaned after each use. However, if I'm ever in Kansas City again, I'm driving straight to Slap's BBQ - This isn't just a clever name; it's a promise delivered.
The prices were really good for the amount of food given which was plenty. The restaurant is build your own poke or ramen and a friendly robot delivers it to your table. The staff was friendly and helpful, especially when it involved a gluten allergy. I would for sure go again.
Very cute shop kind of in the middle of nowhere with a selection of tea, plants, clothing, accessories, and baked goods. The menu is pretty vague (it just says “tea” or “latte”) so ask for recommendations. I got the turmeric chai with oat milk and the pistachio halva, which was a bit expensive but the only gluten free option to eat, and it was tasty.
I went for lunch and feel like I found a hidden gem. The staff were friendly, the food was incredible, and the atmosphere was cozy. I am glad I got the opportunity to enjoy my food at the cafe. I'm not gluten free, but they had gluten free treats. I personally had the Santa Fe Chicken sandwich and a Carrot Cake cookie. Both were absolutely delightful. I'm not usually on the Kansas side of the state line but I look forward to visiting again when I am!
