Nice atmosphere and place to chill, barista seemed a bit apathetic. Nice gluten/dairy free options for treats!

We are so happy we stumbled upon this place on our most recent trip to Black Mountain. The staff is amazing - attentive and upbeat. And the food was delicious. It was so refreshing to see the gluten free and vegan options for me and the meat options for my husband. We liked it so much we came back the next night. Our favs are the lion cakes appetizer and the Bahn-mi bowls!

What a great date spot! The ambiance is perfect. The staff are thoughtful and attentive. The food is unique and absolutely delicious! We ordered several things to split since the plates are smaller portions. My husband had the Brussels sprouts, the mushrooms, and the duck leg confit. He was wowed with each one and said the Brussels won the meal. I ordered the gluten-free Brussels sprouts and the Flat Iron Steak (with cheese grits as a substitute for the rutabaga cake which was gluten-full), both delicious! The Brussels sprouts were my favorite as well. My husband ordered the Japanese Sweet Potato Cheesecake and said it was divine (I tasted a tiny piece and agree). Definitely would recommend The Pure & Proper.

I came here with a friend when it was not so busy. The food took a decent amount of time to come out and the fries were unimpressive, however the burgers were very good. As a side note I'm gluten free and the gluten free burger bun was delicious and they have a decent amount of GF options, although it is about $2 more to do so. Overall I must give this place a high rating, because even though their system is kind of clunky (you order at the restaurant and get food at the truck, had trouble knowing when our food was done) the atmosphere is fantastic. I don't have kids, but if I did I know what they would love...this place. That's what they'd love. It's a very open space yard with some shading and plenty table space for big parties. Lots of fun things to do for kids. Overall I like this place. Just some decent comfort food with great environment!
