We brought family in from out-of-town as one had a gluten allergy. They were very pleased with the choices and the food. I wish I had told them how to cook my burger (they didn't ask), but it was still good.
Gluten free pasta is really bad. Texture is seriously the worst I’ve ever tried. If you aren't willing to use good pasta and make an effort to cook it properly - just take it off the menu.
Every time I have eaten here it has been a great experience. The stuff is wonderful and friendly. Didn't have to long for anything. They care for you. The food is so good. I specially loved their shepherd's Pie , curry fries and Sticky Toffee Pudding. They also have a excellent gluten free menu.
This restaurant came recommended. They did lie. The food was fantastic. The service was superb. We were allowed to choose our table. We were accommodated our gluten free order and vegetarian order.
A little piece of Japan in Monterey Bay. This shop has a ton of authentic Japanese products and food. They have great flavor and vegan and gluten free options. The service was really good and everyone was really nice and patient in explaining the menu. I would definently come here again.
The food here was fantastic but what really makes the experience is the staff, who were friendly, accommodating and absolutely delightful. As a coeliac vegetarian, they were very accommodating and were prepared to alter the dish I wanted to make it both! This shows they cook everything fresh and the chefs know their stuff. Would definitely recommend, just a bit on the pricey side ($30-50 for a main)
Great portions and tasty bowls! 🍲 We grabbed lunch to go on the way out of town and gobbled it up! Recommend the California Bowl or the Ahi Da’Kahine Bowl! Perfect for my gluten free, dairy free friends!
Excellent! Chocolate chip cookies are perfect. We had a pepperoni pizza and a gluten free pizza. Both were very good. So many topping options. Definitely recommend!
Premise 1. This is my first ever positive restaurant review. I do not have time to write reviews and only write one when I had a bad experience and want to warn fellow travelers. I loved this place so much that took extensive notes on the various dishes.
Premise 2. I have dined in many Michelin star(s) restaurants, in France, UK, Belgium, Italy, USA. I am Italian and lived in France and Belgium many years. I am not a food critic, but know good food and know fake. I still remember home made pasta and sauces my mother would make.
The above premised: this was one of the best ever dining experiences in many years. Food was perfectly cooked, the right combination of flavors and textures. Not too much salt and not overly thickened sauces. Just right. Perfect pasta, al dente - in the real sense of the word. The “LaPera” (Pear Salad) had just the right amount of sweet and fresh, with the candied pecans complementing the sweetness of the pears in an indulgence of fresh flavors. The Fettuccine al Pescatore (my choice), were perfect, the fresh fish not overly cooked - a difficult thing to do as cooks tend now to have the sauce with the fish prepared beforehand and when they “finish” it with the pasta it ends overcooking the fish. Hence you typically have more calamari which, because of its natural consistency, do not present this challenge. Not here, perfect mix of seafood and fresh fish. Delightful. The Tagliatelle alla Boscaiola (my son’s choice) were so good, fresh mushrooms and rich in flavor. What topped it all were the “Fiocchi al Gorgonzola” (my daughter’s choice) “out of this world” - the gorgonzola sauce (using I believe TOTL gorgonzola - otherwise it is typically overly salty) was en experience even just by itself. We later learned that the fiocchi were made by a local artisan in California. I did not know Maurizio, the owner, but got to know him through the evening, delightful and down to heart, and a real artist at heart. To my asking, he explained that he takes particular pride in choosing only first rate ingredients - I can only say that it shows in all of his creations. He was able to adapt for my wife, who has a gluten allergy, the dish she chose. Even her GF pasta (I know it is TOTL and the most expensive around - cannot say the brand to avoid advertising) was just perfect. In short: if I lived in Monterrey, this would be my go-to locanda - for a fancy dinner, to bring my friends, or just to remind me of perfectly made pasta!
Bravissimo Maurizio and Team - come to open an Osteria on the East Coast!
All the times have been here but food tastes really fresh. I like I can make my meal gluten free and low carbs. I like they're different sauces. They have a few different choices, salad choices, and my all-time favorite spanakopita. Always a good meal when I come here
This place is amazing!!!! Right off of the bay and the food was cooked with love and style! We loved our experience at this restaurant and will be back as soon as possible. They also have GLUTEN-FREE options. 😊
It's always a hopeful sign when vegan (V) and gluten free (GF) are clearly identified. That's the reason I chose Jacks at the Portola Hotel in Old Monterey. There were more than one item I can order. We selected a salad, The Sesame Ginger Bowl without the hoisin sauce, a side of fried tofu for protein, and the Turkey Pot Pie. Both items were delicious. The server forgot about the fried tofu, but when it finally came, it was oil soaked and not very enjoyable. The salad was enjoyable. The Turkey Pot Pie came with a spoon because it was kind of soupy inside, but enough turkey and very delicious. The hotel interior was nicely designed by the ambience at our table was not as nice because it felt like a low end sports bar. If we came back to Monterey or Pacific Grove again, we would definitely dine here.
How this is not a Michelin 2 star restaurant is beyond me...
From the moment you walk into the coastal kitchen you get a sense of ease with the ocean the real ocean as your background you know you're in for something very special.
Complimented with some of the most fresh seafood I've ever had in my life while looking at the ocean is a very surreal experience and to make it better when the host comes and brings you a pair of binoculars so you really feel incapulated in the whole experience of the ocean in Monterey.
Starting off with 4 small bites some of the most memorable bites I'll ever eat in my life and never forget.
Then begins the actual dinner 5 courses Some of the most creative and delicious food I've ever had definitely not stuffy just well done and perfectly cooked.
I also added the fresh pasta course because it sounded so great and they did not skim at all on the Truffles.
The dessert was a play on toast and jam and a deconstructed version of it that was so well executed truly a remarkable experience celebrating my 15 year anniversary with my Beautiful wife something we will never forget.
We have eaten at some of the best Restaurants in the Country including Atelier Crenn, Manresa, Providence, Mèlisse, Saison, Californios, Canlis Bouchon, Localis, Miller & Lux, Protégé. & I am more than convinced that Coastal Kitchen is Among The Best.
As a Chef I can respect what this Chef and his team are doing and fully understand the complexity in working with very Fresh Seafood and keeping the flavors pure & beautiful...
(Thank you for accommodating my wife's Gluten-Free alergy.)
Thanks again Coastal Kitchen for making our Anniversary very Special.

The location is great and the views of wildlife from the windows was very entertaining. Service was also fantastic.
Food was pretty mediocre and not worth the prices. One of the dishes we ordered was the seafood Alfredo with their gluten free pasta. The gluten free pasta completely broke apart into tiny pieces, which they charged an extra $6 for. The scallops were off—either bad or way overcooked and we didn’t eat any of them. We told the staff, but they didn’t acknowledge it, take anything off our bill or at the least apologize.
We also ordered a cheeseburger for my daughter, who took a few bites and said it wasn’t very good and wouldn’t eat more.
Exceptional food. Fish was super fresh. Sashimi was some of the best I have ever had. Highly recommend the dragon ball Z. Staff are very knowledgeable about gluten free. Very friendly and quick service.
I like fish there and different sauces. There is no gluten free bread and gluten free cake. You have to wait in line to get seated. It is a popular place)
