I went to The Bottle of Milk on Saturday 2nd March (at 2 p.m.) with my partner and I rarely take the time to leave reviews when service was bad as I used to work in hospitality, too.
I am coeliac and I do understand that cross contamination is the standard in all cafes and restaurants but some do take more measures to prevent cross contamination.
When I asked about their gluten free buns, the girl at the cash register was very impatient and just wanted to take the order and did not care about what I had to say. At this stage the lunch rush was already over and only one person was lining up behind me to order. After asking 2 questions about safe choices for me, an old guy with grey collar length hair at the coffee machine rolled his eyes and said "ugh" which was incredibly rude. This attitude is shocking and very uninviting and it does not matter whether he was the owner of the place or not.
I ended up only ordering for my partner which we straight away cancelled and left the place. Would not recommend as a burger with chips cost 40 dollars which I would be happy to pay if good service was provided.
We ended up going to Lorne Central where we were greeted friendly and all coeliac safe options were patiently explained and I was fine after it.
The staff are friendly and spirited. I especially liked the way they prepare and serve the food and beverages. The cafe faces the beach which is perfect. Having some coffee or cold drinks while watching the sea is nice. I would recommend the banana smoothies while doing so. They also have several vegan and gluten-free options which is lovely
Really disappointed with my meal. My burger tasted like sadness. Ordinary unflavoured patty, AWFUL gluten free bun, slimy tasteless cheese. Absolutely ick. I would have expected far better from an establishment that claims to make excellent burgers, every time!
Fresh ingredients and really delicious! Funky restaurant playing banging tunes and friendly, quick service.
Plenty of vegan and gluten free options available too!
Gluten free toastie has to be the best I’ve ever had! Crunchy on the outside but still easy to actually eat.
My family also tried iced chocolates, smoothie and cake and all were great.
Can make gluten free fish (grilled) buy chips are fried in same oil as fish. They provide rice or salad as other gluten free sides. The fried fish was very good and large portions.
My husband and I ate here for breakfast, lunch and dinner for the weekend. The staff are all so friendly and the food was amazing. Very good with gluten free and considering coeliac options. Knowledgeable and understood our dietary requirements well.
The staff here are phenomenal! Very helpful in guiding me to the gf options (not marked on menu). I ordered a chocolate milkshake and a halloumi and roast pumpkin toastie. As soon as I said I was celiac they took it very seriously and put a note on my order to take extra care. It was absolutely delicious, with a fantastic panini from a local dedicated gf bakery. Fast and friendly service with a nice view.
Dropped by here looking for some galettes and was glad we did. The galettes were delicious. The coffee was excellent. The chef clearly loves what he makes and it shows. Highly recommend especially if you are looking for good gluten free options.
