First time here yesterday, and everything was perfect! Everything from the moment we stepped into the restaurant, we was greeted warmly, the layout and decor inside is really nice. Lovely atmosphere too.
The food was really really good! I had the meatball dish and my wife had the Carbonara.
Great customer care as my wife is gluten intolerant, but the menu caters perfectly for those with food intolerance/allergies too. They even made gluten free garlic bread from scratch for us, and it tasted amazing!!!
Desserts are REALLY good too!!!!
Absolutely going to book again for a couple of weeks time for my birthday. Going to bring our children too as the kids menu caters well for them too (kids eat free option available too).
Zizzi Colchester is now our ‘go to restaurant’.

I was so impressed with the gluten free menu they have! And it tasted amazing. We came on Friday and the staff were very friendly and the service was great. It can get busy outside for parking so we had to park in St Mary’s in the end but that isn’t the restaurants fault.

Drove nearly an hour to come for a tea and cake with the dog as it states on the website its dog friendly only be told they couldn’t have dogs in because they were short staffed. They also said they announced it but there was nothing on their social media so I’m not sure where they expected people to see it. Especially as their last post was about a doggie menu! Woman was rude and unhelpful and there were 3 families in the queue with dogs that had turned up to be directed to two tables in the car park that were already occupied. Gluten free options were also terrible so do not recommend for coeliacs

Visited for the first time today. Really loved the atmosphere and friendly welcome from Earnest. I was pleased to see that the menu caters for gluten free and (for my friend) vegan and vegetarian. While the lady prepping the food made clear that for allergies she couldn’t guarantee completely gluten free due to a shared space, she reassured me that things would be thoroughly cleaned down and gloves worn to prepare my food. I really appreciated the care and attention given. The food was delicious, and I’m looking forward to my next visit already!

We held my afternoon tea hen party here and had the best time!! The staff were incredibly accommodating and generous in helping my hens bring their vision to life. Nothing was too much of a hassle and we felt super welcome - the team at Oranges and Lemons made it all really special. They were also brilliant with our access needs (I’m a wheelchair user) and dietary requirements (vegan, nut free, gluten free, veggie etc). The food was delicious (best vegan afternoon sandwiches I’ve had!) and we’ve had great feedback from the group. The room was the perfect vibe for us - lovely atmosphere and decor. Staff let us know when they had food at the buffet redone. Rui and William were wonderful, Rui brought our meat around and helped one of our party with getting the meat cooked at the right level for them. The food was brilliantly cooked and so tasteful and a lot of variety for our gluten free child. William made sure that we were well attended and that everything was OK for us and made sure that we had enough drinks. We've been before and will definitely come back again. What a lovely place with such excellent service and really yummy Sunday roast. There is never enough gravy in most subday roasts but not at Mersea Barns! A whole gravy boat for the table! My kids have allergies and so many places we go to eat it's complicated and we are made to feel like an inconvenience but the staff at Mersea Barns went out of their way to be kind and accomidate our dietary needs. Good to see a couple of dairy free/ gluten free things at the counter too makes a world of difference to feel included when you have allergies.

We ordered food from here for our Christmas Dance Party buffet. A selection of sandwiches with Christmas flavours, sausage rolls, scotch eggs, dips and veggie sticks and quiche. We have a few people in the group with food allergies as well as sensitive to gluten, vegetarian and vegan . Brunch offered options for everyone! Not just “something to eat” but rather a good selection for everyone to have a nice meal. All the trays and packs were perfectly labelled and the food was delivered on time as agreed.
The attendees of the party came out of their way to let me know that they enjoyed the food.
I will happily recommend for your event. Making an order is pretty straightforward and you can get good advice and help from the team about what to orded. They also let me know if I was ordering too much for the amount of people.
