Every time we are up on the North Shore we stop in for dinner and pie! Most of the waitstaff are very knowledgeable, but there are a couple of duds. Today I got the Hot Beef meal, and they can make it with gluten free bread and make a gluten free gravy. Of course the pies are the big draw, and we think they win over Betty's Pies. Today I had the Lemon Angel. They also have a Raspberry Cream and a Blueberry Cream. All three come on meringue crust. So light and fluffy and delicious!
By far the best pizza I have ever had and I have lived all over this beautiful country of ours. Can't go wrong with whatever you choose to order, even the gluten free crust is good. Don't waste your time going to any other pizza joint nearby... It is worth the 40 minute wait or so for the pizza.
My family had a great lunch at Black Woods in Two Harbors! Our server was knowledgeable about gluten-free options, and I had no issues.
My kids loved the Alfredo pasta, and my husband enjoyed the huge walleye sandwich. We will be back next time we're in the area!
One of my favorite stops on the north shore has sadly come to an end. We stopped here on a Sunday (Father’s Day) at around 11:15am and waited 57 minutes for an incorrect food order (gluten free pb toast and a breakfast burrito - no pb on toast). The drinks were faster - slow but an understandable wait with how busy it was. We were told “this is our Sunday” by staff so know that you might wait an hour for food if it’s a weekend. When we left they were telling people the wait for food was 30 minutes - we weren’t warned and wouldn’t have waited if we had been told there was a 30 minute wait. Our experience just wasn’t worth the stop (beautiful location and good coffee). Note that I did wait back in the ordering line to cancel our food order but was told they were making it and then it was another 10-15 to get it.
Chef Todd is amazing. The menu is always diverse and interesting and the specials are unique and fresh. I tremendously enjoy eating his creations. Also, i can find food at Mcquade's fine for my dietary limitations (gluten/dairy) and the staff is great at checking in the kitchen what ingredients are in the recipes
A gem off the 61 beaten path. Healthy, refreshing, vegan and gluten free options—rare for the north shore. Highly recommend. Just wish it was open for more meals so we can eat there more often on our trip.
Food was okay, but service was horrible.
Had a hair in our food and ordered the gluten free pork belly tacos, which the shells were hard from sitting out too long, though the pork was good. Our waitress was extremely rude and unavailable (it was at 2pm, not a busy time).
Overall, take your business elsewhere.
Unforgettable Staff, Mouthwatering Menu, Perfect Execution, Awe-Inspiring Scenery.
Best customer experience at a restaurant I can recall, hands down, ever. After being VERY late for a reservation, the staff graciously accommodated myself and my traveling companion with poise. Our server Cassandra knew the menu well, was prompt, professional, and courteous. (Thank you!)
The food was expertly prepared and beyond delicious, chosen from a menu with several thoughtful gluten free and vegetarian option. The salmon and beef tenderloin were both exceptional, and a return trip for their notoriously savory walleye will be in order.
A minor misunderstanding with a drink order (I’ve been sober for a few years and a mocktail had a little of the good stuff by accident 😵😅) was remedied immediately and without issue. Mock tails were delicious *with* and *without* the artisinal Vikre Distillery aquavit.
After dinner we caught the full moon rising over Lake Superior at the gorgeous Larsmont resort (see photo).
If you have the opportunity, treat yourself to likely the best dining experience on Minnesota’s the North Shore!
I don't eat fast food often, but I stop here on trips from Duluth to the North Shore from time to time. It takes longer to get your food compared to other fast food establishments, but it is well worth the wait. Also offers gluten free buns, which other places don't.
