Two stars bc my dairy/egg/nut allergy daughter was able to have ice cream here during her month-long stay in VT. No more than that, though, because B&J as a company haven't figured out yet that people with allergies often have more than one. Why make multiple dairy-free ice creams and add wheat into every one of them? It's beyond illogical. A simple dairy-free chocolate, or geez use GF oreos, and you are all set. Instead, there's nothing even at the VT locations for people allergic to two top allergens: wheat and dairy (notably, the two most common triggers of adult EoE as well, and frequently problematic for people with celiac also). Sorbet is not ice cream. Please don't use that as an excuse.

For the first time in years I was refused service at the downtown scoop location in Burlington Vermont because I have Celiac's. I was told I could not have a milkshake allergen friendly because scooping from fresh containers of ice cream downstairs would introduce new contaminats and it wouldn't be safe. The last thing was that there were no clean milkshake machines. The final reason was the real nail in the coffin for me walking out and writing this review. I was offered scoops of ice cream in a cup but by that point in the conversation I was worried they would give me an excuse why they couldn't use a clean scoop. I am extremely disappointed in Ben and Jerry's and I will never be going to that scoop location and urge anyone with allergies to be very careful when ordering from the downtown Burlington location.
