We decided to try Blue Bird Bistro on my birthday. We went on a Monday evening and made reservations, however, this particular night no reservations were needed and we were seated right away. We got there at 7:30 and stayed until close, it was so relaxing and we didn't feel rushed. The wait staff was very friendly and accommodating. The ambiance was perfect. The food was a little more bland than I expected but it was still good and hot and fresh. There were plenty of gluten free and dairy free options for me. The cocktails were great! Recommend the catfish bites appetizer. All in all it was a great experience and we will definitely visit again.

I freaking love blue bird, it’s Kansas City’s most hidden gem. The menu is always rotating and interesting. There is a mix of more health forward foods and comfort food. But everything is made with local and organic ingredients so you really can’t go wrong with any selection. I also like that they have an extensive menu that features options for a gluten free girlie. The desserts are also fire!

The atmosphere was absolutely lovely. A very ambient setting. Everything I love… warm and cozy with a dim light. My spouse got the salmon dish and it was wonderful. The polenta was amazing so he said. I am Paleo, gluten-free, and dairy free. I was informed that the bison pot roast dish met all of my needs. However, it was not edible as the owner had come over to the table to let us know, after my complaining, that the chef had overheated the bison , and failed to put it in the Ajou sauce, while heating it up. Knowing this before bringing it out to my table, I wish they would’ve had the chef heat the bison up correctly so that I was not disappointed. It was so tough that I could not even chew it or cut it with a knife. They did bring a piece of salmon out, bit it was also very overcooked. We’ll try it again, in hopes that the food will better meet our standards.
