I
Comedor in downtown Austin blew us away when we visited earlier this year! The modern Mexican cuisine is nothing short of a culinary adventure, with flavors that dance on your palate. As someone who's gluten-free, I was amazed to discover that the entire menu is gluten-free—this truly blew my mind! Chef Philip Speer's creativity shines through in every dish. The atmosphere is a beautiful blend of chic design and warmth, making it the perfect setting for a memorable meal. The service was friendly and attentive, making us feel truly special. If you're looking for an unforgettable dining experience, Comedor is the place to be!

I want to start on a positive note and say that the fish tacos and ambiance of Comedor are amazing. Some of the best fish tacos I’ve ever had. Better than Este which is saying a lot. The inside is very well done and a great date night spot or a girls night out. I do feel like the pricing is over the top expensive and some recommendations by our server were misleading. We had a group of 9 and ordered a ton of food and were misled about only getting a “bite and a half” of fish and proceeded to order 2 fish and that was waaaay too much. The bone marrow is a rip off but I feel that way about any restaurant that serves bone barrow. Barely any meat and almost $40 for two bones. It was one of our gf’s birthdays and they charged $14 for a birthday dessert after we dropped a grand on dinner. Just felt like it could’ve been complementary. Plates were removed from the table before we were finished and weren’t asked before removing. I also noticed (they aren’t the only restaurant) there’s a healthcare surcharge charged to the patrons. Why are we paying for employees healthcare? Isn’t that on the business that employees them? It just felt very “nickel and dimey” for my taste. Overall the flavors and options were great and I understand why this restaurant has a Michelin recommendation but I won’t be back unless it’s for a quick glass of wine and fish tacos at the bar. Ordered: Empanadas- 4/5. Flavor was great but crust was a little hard. Fish tacos- 5/5 amazing and must get Bone marrow- 3.5/5 despite everyone saying it’s a “must”, not worth the price point Cesar salad- 4/5 solid Gem salad- 4/5 solid Fish- 4/5- was undercooked towards the center but flavor was good Sides- papas, cauliflower, carrots. All good sharing size. Corn torts are yummy and also a major plus 100% gluten free kitchen.

LOVED comedor! visited by myself while on a work trip for my first time in austin and was entirely pleased! super excited to find out the menu is 100% naturally gluten free and mostly local my server joshua was really pleasant and patient with me as i decided what to order and chef philip even spared a few minutes to chat with me ginger repo cocktail , bone marrow tacos, carrots, crudo, and smoked fish beautiful interior and silverware (lol) my only complaint was that i dined alone and wasn't able to try more of the menu !
