Dominick's Steakhouse

I was debating if I should post this because I don’t usually like to write negative reviews but it was just such a subpar experience. I was visiting from out of town in late October with work colleagues so we decided to go have a nice dinner out after our conference we hosted. I chose the place because it had great reviews and it listed gluten free items in the menu so I assumed allergies and dietary restrictions would be accommodated. We arrived and were given a very nice table but it was so dark inside nobody could read their menus. I know places like to have mood lighting but this was too dark. I felt like we were in one of those places in the movies where a gangster would have been sitting in the corner. The server greeted us and immediately asked if we had any food allergies or dietary restrictions. I told him that I did and my colleague did. He came over and asked me what my allergies were and I said I can’t have gluten or dairy. He kind of laughed and said “well, that’s gonna be tough because our chef loves to prepare most things with butter.” I laughed back and said, “well believe me, if I could eat butter I would but I am allergic to it so it’s not just a preference”. I couldn’t believe a nice place like this couldn’t sub cooking with oil instead of butter. I wanted to get salmon but they couldn’t grill it, and so I literally ended up eating a salad and 3 jumbo shrimp cocktail for my dinner. lol. Everyone said their steaks were ok but not the best they’ve had. It was really disappointing they couldn’t accommodate more. Normally when I’ve dined in places, the servers are super knowledgeable and helpful and will do their best to accommodate. We ate twice that same week at Bourbon Steakhouse at the Fairmont where we were staying and they prepared the best meals for us where I could eat most everything. The chef even came out to check how we liked our food. I don’t think I will be dining in this place again when we visit. If you have food allergies or restrictions I don’t recommend it at all.

Had a lovely dinner here a few weeks ago. We got the NY strip, sautéed corn, Mac and cheese, Brussels sprouts, sugar snap peas as well as a couple drinks. Everything was delicious and the service was top notch. Really appreciate how many options they have for gluten-free and the waiters were super accommodating with other allergens as well. Two of us had extensive food allergies and we still had a lot of variety of food with a couple small adjustments by the staff. Will definitely be back.

Easily the best meal I've ever had. The ribeye was perfect as well as the Dominick's potatoes. I have celiac disease and the gluten free options are great.
