Just across from Gage Park is the cozy and well lit Gage Park Diner. Serving your usual breakfast and lunch fare, this 7 table eatery may be on the smaller side at first glance, but it is truly a quaint and friendly dining option right around the corner.
We arrived around 11 am on a Thursday, and by 11:45 almost all of the tables had been filled for lunch. They do a good turnover, so it's unlikely you'll need to wait.
For those that can't wait: choose take-away!
While seated we overheard folks call-in to place and pick up their orders.
PORTIONS/DIETARY OPTIONS:
Portions are sizeable for what you pay, and for those who need Vegetarian or Vegan options, they have menus available for you! Those menus aren't short either. They offer a sizeable selection of offerings so you don't feel like you're missing out. Examples include:
Just Egg, tofu, bacon tempeh, and vegan pancakes using almond milk.
Gluten free options are also available.
OUR ORDERS:
Being quite ravenous, we ordered the Heck Yeah and the Reuben Hash. These were both served with home fries that had onions in them, but don't worry, the servers are great and will ask you to be sure you're ok with them. The Heck Yeah was a massive amount of food, and well worth the price. I'd highly encourage folks try the Reuben Hash if you are fans of the sandwich.
The only suggestion I could give is that they seasoned the potatoes with a bit more salt as they came across a bit bland in the hash, but that could have just been a one-off!
PARKING:
Parking is free and available for 2 hours directly in front of the restaurant (left hand side of King St)
OVERALL:
I'd give it a solid 4.5/5! Great service, good food in good sized portions, clean and quaint interior. It's a definite come back restaurant!
