Disclaimer: it's a long review from a very happy mum of a 7 year old coeliac!
We planned our first trip to Melbourne with our 7year old coeliac after his diagnosis last year. We are vegetarians and were looking for a coeliac safe Indian restaurant. We contacted Gaylord and were told that the kitchen can accommodate coeliacs. Not only did they have gf bread option - which they make separately on a dedicated pan(instead of the tandoor) but they also have Currys which are Gf. They are very well aware of cross contamination
What I was extremely impressed with however, was how the team at Gaylord handled our request. The chef Himanshu came out to check with us and prepared some sides for my son, fresh from scratch. A special shout out to Yamin Sheikh, who was extremely patient over the call and took note of all our requests and requirements. He double checked with Chef and called us back reassuring us about cross contamination.Indian tempering might contain asafoetida (which is a hidden source of gluten in Indian food) Yamin advised us on the safe options that did not contain asafoetida. On our arrival at the restaurant he ensured everything was in order. Yamin’s knowledge, preparedness and passion to make it safe for my son reflected in his efforts and we ended up visiting the restaurant 4 times during our stay.
I highly recommend Gaylord to coeliacs who are looking to eat Indian food. The food is delicious the staff is patient and reliable and the experience and satisfaction level is outstanding. Big thank you to Mr. Yamin Sheikh one more time for his dedication and patient ear.
