Immigrant Food at Planet Word

This was, without exaggeration, the best café I've visited since moving to America, both for the food and the service. We went for a late lunch that rolled right into happy hour, so we got to enjoy that too! We started with gazpacho, then Sary's pupusas, which were incredible. I still can't believe they're gluten free! They were so good we ended up ordering a second round. From there we had the Mediterranean Caesar salad and the Mediterranean lamb skewers, plus iced tea with free refills. One thing I really loved: every item on the menu has clear labels for gluten free, vegan, and vegetarian options, along with a short description of what's actually in the dish. It made ordering so easy and stress free. Our server, Ana, was the sweetest. She checked on us throughout the meal, not to rush us out, but genuinely to make sure we had everything we needed and were enjoying the food. That kind of attentive, unhurried service is rare. The portions were generous and easy to share, and the prices were more than fair for the quality. Every dish was beautifully plated too, you could tell there was real care in the presentation (photos attached!). We honestly couldn't stop there and went on to order the Filipino fried chicken as well. Then came the dessert menu, and I wanted to try everything. We settled on the Nutella empanadas (three of them, freshly made, served with homemade ice cream) for just $10. We also got the Latin flan and a café calma, a coffee drink made with dates that I would recommend to anyone. Absolutely must try. What touched me most was their merch that reads "immigrants make America great." As an immigrant myself, seeing that message, and learning that 25% of their profits go toward supporting immigrants during such a difficult time, meant so much. I'm so glad we got to be part of that. Can't wait to go back to DC to visit this café again!

So so good! A ton of choices, all of which looked amazing. We tried the summer non-alcoholic drinks, super good. Dip trio was great. Lots of gluten free and veggie options. Love the variety and the setting. Everyone was so nice, too!
