Went to J.Gilbert’s for my 40th birthday. We had a reservation and were initially shoved in a full room (it’s corona, why is there a full room), in the corner near the bathroom. My husband asked if we could have a different table so they moved us. The new table was in the bar right by the front door and a guy came by to tell us the special and bring us water before saying Terri would be serving us. At least 5 minutes passed before she arrived to ask for drinks. She said no one told her they turned the table over to her. We also asked for a gluten sensitive menu as my daughter (16) was diagnosed this week and it was our first restaurant trip since diagnosis. Terri had to track down a menu but she found one after several minutes and asking for help. We ordered 3 appetizers for our table of 6 and the food was amazing (onion rings, charcuterie and blue cheese chips). Nothing on the gluten menu sounded good to my daughter so I asked if we could just buy a serving of prosciutto that was on the charcuterie. Terri checked with the chef and came back to tell us no, he was worried he didn’t have enough for the night so he wouldn’t sell us a serving. It was 7pm on a Sunday, how many more did they anticipate selling for the night? My daughter chose not to order food but did eventually end up eating a few bites of gluten filled food because she was starving and suffered the stomach aches the rest of the night. We all ordered meals when Terri finally came back to take our order, she didn’t appear often. We ordered steaks (fillets and cowboy cut), wagyu hamburgers and crab cakes and all the food was top notch, came out quickly and was perfect temperature. Terri brought bread to the table right before our meals arrived and it was also good but not good for my gluten free daughter who was still sitting with no food and it would have been good had it arrived sooner. For my birthday the restaurant offered a dessert which was wonderful because they did have a gluten free option so I ordered creme brûlée and we also ordered a chocolate cake. Again, food arrived quickly and was delicious. The purpose of this review is to say that $400 later we had sub-par service, sat at a booth right by the door so were cold each time the door opened (the bathroom was our other option) and my daughter had to come home to eat after dinner. The food was amazing but can’t imagine the restaurant not selling a serving of prosciutto when knowing there was a dietary concern. I wonder if the server even relayed that to the kitchen. Overall I would go back to J. Gilbert’s but I would not sit in Terri’s section. She often would walk towards our table and then turn around and not come over and in the 2 hours we were there we saw her 4-5 times, 1 of which I had to call her over because I was tired of waiting. Food is 5 stars but service was 2 stars at best.
