I know that after so many great reviews, it's hard to believe such a poor one, but I can't understand all the good reviews. Our experience was very different. We ordered the gluten-free base, but that wasn't the issue. TBH, that was the best bit of the pizza. The toppings were different colours, but that's where the difference ended. The pineapple tasted like the peppers, which tasted like the mushrooms, which even tasted like the olives. And the cheese was stringy but also tasteless. The wine was cheap. Only $8. I don't know why I was surprised that it was dreadful. What on earth did I expect? The decor was dated, but at least we got a seat (which was comfy) and the meal (2x GF pizzas, 2x wine, 1x salad) cost $66. What a shame it wasn't slightly more expensive - I'd have happily paid more for a better meal. Sadly, a fresh batch of tourists roll into town daily and they want to eat pizza. They see La Toscana has good reviews. But, if you arevone of these tourists and only have one night in Te Anau, do yourself a favour and try a different restaurant. I wish I had. The guy who said he'd had better pizzas from Tesco was absolutely correct.
