Sometimes life conspires to bring the perfect people together for you for the perfect experience. Dinner at Don’s Diner tonight was like that. The only way to get what I’m saying is to go there, with the right mindset (open), at the right time (Tuesday night around 8:45pm), under specific circumstances (in my case, commemorating a friend lost to Covid), without planning it (two restaurants we tried first were closed and we couldn’t find the third). That’s a tall order, now that I’ve told you about this place, but, your soul will guide you there when you need it most and you’ll converse with the local born chef over a glass of whatever, after enjoying the perfectly cooked, medium rare, Gruyere hamburger lovingly wrapped in crispy, full-on healthy green romaine, if you’re gluten intolerant, and cream over the cauliflower mash, appreciate the attentions of the Connecticut born bartendress and French manager and thank the universe you were guided there. Complete the evening by taking that glass of whatever, through the back, along the outdoor corridor lined with mirrors and down the stairs into the lounge area lined with local trees overlooking the canal, hope the chef comes to share his story with you and have a magical experience.
