Maria's Greek Café

We were 4 diners. My daughter has Celiac disease so we specifically went to Maria’s because they advertised gluten free food. The food was amazingly good! But the manager was rude and abrasive, very dismissive when we asked for assurance that the food was prepared separately. When we got our starters, her gluten free starter was placed next to pita bread that was NOT gluten free, thus contaminating her food. When we pointed this out to the manager, he simply shrugged and left. Our waiter was friendly and helpful. And also apologetic about another table that was very loud, causing us to not stay for dessert because the noise level was simply too high! The only down side about the food was the baklava fingers we ordered as take away. They were vile! Tasted only of cinnamon. I’m Greek so I know how they should taste. Very disappointing dessert, don’t order that!

Excellent service. Tasty and large portions. Lots of Gluten Free options and they use a separate fryer. Pity about the noise. We dropped coffee and dessert because of all the noise. Capetonians seem noisier than Greeks, and the restaurant is very open with little noise absorption.

Stumbled upon Maria's while getting donuts and decided to have breakfast there. The staff was incredibly friendly and helpful, making it a great experience. They offer vegan and gluten-free options and are also pet-friendly - even our dog got a bone from the kitchen. I really enjoyed the roasted vegetables with tahini and used a generous amount of their chili oil. Highly recommend for anyone looking for a meal in town.
