As a person who loves sushi, I can’t leave an excellent review for this place. I wanted to love it so I’m a bit bummed. As a Malibu girl, Nobu is my favorite so I probably do compare everything to it. I also love a good authentic Japanese restaurant. Oko was unfortunately far from a home run. To start out, we arrived right at our reservation time yet still had to wait -by the crammed door- for the table to be cleaned and set. It had clearly been empty. As we sat down, I soon learned they had paper napkins! P A P E R! For this kind of restaurant, HUGE no no! Shocking. Give your guests a nice linen so they can put it in their lap like any other restaurant of this category. Do not skimp details like that. I had to ask for 3-4 napkins to cover my white pants from getting ruined. That was a turn off. As for the service, we all agreed that it wasn’t that great. The guy who delivered my food did not know what kind of fish was in front of me. As for the food, it was not bad. It was quite tasty, perhaps due to the over-salting of quite a few dishes. I was also starved and it took forever for food to come. Excellent? No. It was mediocre sushi that was way overpriced. I expect to taste Katsuya or Nobu for that pricing and at least I leave stuffed. I was starved when I left. Last thing is they are not allergy friendly. No soy milk or alternative milk for my Coffee and no gluten free soy. Not even one sorbet or dairy/gluten free dessert. This is 2018. You have to be allergy friendly to make it. I have to say I will probably give it another shot in a few months to see if it has improved. I was so excited to finally have a nice sushi place in Westport so I will return once for a re-do. Forgot to mention: we stayed after dinner to finish coffee and our check was hurried off the table without a thank you or goodbye.
