DO NOT EAT HERE!! NOT CELIAC SAFE!!! A total tourist trap, which I can be completely down for, but is completely misleading for those of us eating gluten free. Encouraged by the gluten free reviews, we stopped on our cross country road trip to enjoy a dinner after not eating all day. I was immediately on guard from their beef and barley soup of the day being advertised as gluten free, which cannot be possible.
As a celiac I am used to bringing my own food and planning ahead, I know gluten free can be inconvenient so I was happy to find a place that advertised gluten free options on their menu. On arrival I tried to confirm that the options were celiac safe and ask questions about safety procedures, which I get can be inconvenient, but I approached the waiter in a completely friendly manner and was met with eye rolls and complete dismissal. I politely tried again when my salad came out, and the girl cut me off mid sentence with a short “it’s fine,” before walking off.
My sweet tea glass had some kind of black substance smeared on the inside of the glass, which I didn’t notice until after I’d already drank some, and after the blatant rudeness I was genuinely scared to say something and risk getting my drink spit in. I immediately felt nauseous after eating half my salad, despite them “confirming” it was gluten free, and I suspect I will steadily get more ill over the next several hours (as that’s how my symptoms typically progress). I can’t say that a mediocre $15 salad is worth the impending days of debilitating nerve pain and brain inflammation awaiting me.
Even if you eat gluten DO NOT eat here. There are cooler touristy places to eat right on Main Street, and my gluten-eating husband was disappointed by the $20 chicken strips that were terrible and the literal hair in his glass of tea. As for my fellow celiacs or those with a gluten sensitivity, you are better off trying a different place or buying lunchmeat from the local Safeway.
