We went here last winter and loved the food and excellent customer service. This time the new menu wasn’t as good, the music was so loud the waiter and we could barely hear each other, and my family sat in silence the whole meal after giving up trying to talk to each other. I have food allergies, and while menu items are marked as gluten free, veg or vegan which I appreciated, they were not at all accommodating when I asked whether the brown sauce could be left off the garlic shrimp or if cucumbers could be left out of the pho. Its also possible it was a language issue because the waiter barely spoke any English which made it challenging. The only gluten free options were all spicy. When I asked the waiter how spicy the curry dishes were he said they were “mild, a 2 or 3.” It turned out to be so spicy I couldn’t eat it. I told him and he just shrugged and said sorry. Others in my family enjoyed the appetizers and were relatively happy with their meals. FYI, they offer some vegetarian appetizers, but only 2-3 entree choices for vegetarians.
I recently had the pleasure of dining at Plum Vietnamese Restaurant, located in the heart of the Upper West Side. As a lover of Vietnamese cuisine, I was excited to try this establishment, and I must say, it did not disappoint. One of the standout features of Plum Vietnamese Restaurant is their impressive wine selection. The restaurant boasts a well-curated list of wines that perfectly complement the vibrant flavors of Vietnamese cuisine. From crisp white wines to bold reds, there is a wine for every palate. The knowledgeable staff was more than happy to provide recommendations, enhancing the overall dining experience. Moving on to the food, I had the opportunity to try their duck curry, and it was a true delight. The curry was rich and fragrant, with tender pieces of succulent duck. The chef skillfully blended a medley of spices and herbs, resulting in a complex and deeply satisfying dish. The flavors were well-balanced, with just the right amount of heat. It was evident that great care was taken in the preparation of this dish. Apart from the duck curry, Plum Vietnamese Restaurant offers a diverse menu with a wide range of traditional Vietnamese dishes. Whether you're craving pho, spring rolls, or a hearty noodle dish, you'll find it here. The menu also caters to various dietary preferences, including vegetarian and gluten-free options, ensuring that everyone can enjoy a fantastic meal. The ambiance of Plum Vietnamese Restaurant is warm and inviting, with a contemporary yet cozy interior. The attentive and friendly staff added to the overall positive dining experience. They were knowledgeable about the menu and were happy to offer suggestions and answer any questions. While I thoroughly enjoyed my experience at Plum Vietnamese Restaurant, it's worth noting that reservations are highly recommended, especially during peak hours. The restaurant tends to get busy, given its popularity, so it's best to plan ahead to secure a table. In conclusion, Plum Vietnamese Restaurant on the Upper West Side is a hidden gem for Vietnamese cuisine enthusiasts. With its superb wine selection, attentive service, and standout dishes like the duck curry, it offers a culinary experience that is sure to impress. Whether you're a Vietnamese food aficionado or simply looking to try something new, Plum Vietnamese Restaurant is definitely worth a visit.
